Well, I recently got a pretty outstanding commission to paint up this Armorcast Warhound Titan (circa 1989). The titan is a find miniature, but it had some issues with detail- it was basically an enlarged epic scale mini. But with all of those broad areas, I just had to add in some freehand, right?

Also, I've posted this one up on Coolmini, for anyone who cares to vote.

This is fantastic- amazing detail on the freehand, too!

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

Wow, that freehand detail is so intricate. VERY impressive. I wish I could do FH half as good as that.

Wow the detailing and paint control is, not meaning to sound to repetitive with others but it's difficult, very impressive.

You know, I would have told you that that was weird right up until I painted the mural on the top. I mean, this mini has way less detail than the Forge World one, and the detail that he does have looks a little over sized next to any other minis you might have.

But then he leaves so much room for freehand, and that is just great to take advantage of.

Really nice! Great palette for the freehand and the battle damage. I agree that the scale & style of the freehand work really suits the scale of this piece. Thanks for sharing!

As much as I hate the Armorcast Warhound, you definately made the best of it. I think the most impressive thing about the freehand is that there's so much of it. You had a lot of flat, blank space to play with and you filled it up. Good job.

Yay! I was hoping you would post this sooner rather than later, odinsgrandson. As the proud owner of this model I have to say that even my friends and family who are not interested in miniatures were impressed with the artistry that went into this piece. It really looks killer with my Praetorians scurrying around its feet too!

The inner hull carapace is stamped with "Armorcast 1989."

The stamp on the inside is the indicator (it was copyright Armorcast 1989). Of course, they might have used an older stamp. I first heard about this mini in '93 or '94. But Armorcast wasn't that big back then, and the internet hadn't become the force for awesome that it now is (which means that they had some trouble getting the word out). So '89 sounds right to me.

I'm with eledamris. When I look at the sculpt, the words "goofy" and "clunky" come to mind, not "classic." Maybe I'd feel differently if I had been around through the older editions, but I seriously doubt it - I just can't stand the old aesthetic (2nd ed. Orks? Oh, you mean the Great Green Travesty...). The painting, however, is fantastic. The carapace scenes have that old school aesthetic that I'm less than enamored with, but the skill with which it was executed and the way it sits on the model is truly impressive. For all my aesthetic reservations, I can't help but recognize this as great work.

Your offering your child without even talking to them first?! tut tut sir. At least talk to them for approximatly 5 miniutes before you throw them to the warp beasts, I mean its what the Emprah did!

OP: That is awesome! i wish i had a sixteenth of your free hand skill

You know, I always thought it was odd when fairy tales have Fey trading for children. I mean, babies can be such a nuisance sometimes, and it is just more responsibility.

The devil in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnasus had it right. He gets the child when she comes of age.

That is fething beautiful.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.
