Subject: Can't find Black Primer, what gives?

Got the painting bug and found I was out of black primer. I used the Krylon Black and had great results last time, so I went out for a new can.
Headed over to Walmart and they had 1 can of Gray. Tried another Walmart, they had a full stock of white and brown. When asked about black, I was told they don't carry it.
Annoyed I headed to Home Depot, to find they had a full range of every color primer... but black. I asked one of the kids there, and he looked at me as if I had asked him for a unicorn. >_< Then he tells me they don't carry it either.
Now shifting between disbelief and confusion, I am wondering if I should try another store like Ace Hardware, Lowes, or Auto Zone OR if I'm better off finding a new brand.
Any help would be great on finding the Krylon Black or a new equal. Thanks.

My local walmart still carries it. Maybe the clerk didnt know his stuff? (happens alot here, like some guy say they didnt carry a certain toy or piece of clothing, only for me to point it out to them about a minute later).

There was no space on the shelf or sticker. Same with Home Depot. Nothing with the words Black Primer together.

I use Color Place black spray from Wal mart. Costs less than a buck and works great.
For most things these days though I use Vallejo Model Air grey primer.

There's a great article in this month's Fine Scale Modeller magazine about primering.
Have you tried duplicolor black? It is an automotive primer.

Autozone or Advance Auto Parts - Duplicolor sandable primer in black is all I use. It is awesome, dries quickly and has excellent coverage. Usually $4-$5 a can.
Evidently it is also the same stuff Privateer repackages as their P3 Primer for $10+ a can.

I do a similar thing. Youd be surprised at how well the cheapy primers work. I get a cheap black from home depot thats just under a buck, and its fantastic. Ive used probably 4 or so cans so far, infact just yesterday used one thats a good 6 months old in 10 degree weather(obviously the can wasnt that cold), and it still laid out perfect. Give it a shot, if you dont like the results your only out a couple bucks

ditto. However, a master fig painter said he just used their black paint - it is slightly thinner and obscures less fine details. I experimented and can confirm he's right. I even tried to scratch it off a metal fig compared to the primer and it is almost as durable. After painting I coat my models anyway, so I'm not worried about scratching much.

We use a ton of the stuff at the Auto body shop where I work and on several occasions I've taken " Damaged" cans home (Damaged in that they were missing the spray tip).
I can attest to the fact that it works very well.

Krylon Ultra Matte Camo paint also works as an excellent primer, comes in a few shades of grey and black.

last I checked, Michael's carried the Krylon Black spray. You might try there. other than that, I usually get mine at Lowes, but I couldn't find the 'special' rotating spray tip last time I bought primer. Hope this helps.

I've been to two Wal-marts in the past two months and neither had a good selection of spray paint, especially Krylon spray paint. Lots of brown primer, barely any white or gray, and no black.
If there is a Micheal's near you, try that. They had all 4 Krylon primers, along with multiple Krylon clear coat varnish options.
Be sure to visit their website first and get their 40% off one item coupon, otherwise you'll pay $6 for the primer.

I have never used the krylon "primer". I always just use the regular color, not the primer kind. That I have never not found.
