I am going to be looking to have a squad of 9 termimators as bodyguards for abbadon,so they can fit in a landraider. To protect them from enemy fire once they pop out the tank im thinking of giving them a mark of nurgle to give them a toughness of 5, so lascannon fire or any ordanance fire from ig tanks cannot give them instant death. After hearing a certain rule that deffcoptas (who have t4(5) ) are killed instantly from lascannon fire or misslile launchers because the score in brackets is ignored when instant death is concerend. So what i am looking for is an answer to this: would my terminators with an icon of nurgle be immume to strength 8 or 9 weapons if so why and if not why?

They would still get insta killed by strength 8+ due to the rules on page 26. It even talks about marks of chaos.

More specifically it states that bonuses to a stat do not count when looking at instant death. It gives wargear, bikes and chaos marks as examples.

Ah ok so..... This leads to my next question. What woulg be the best mark to give them to protect against it. Guessimg tzneech as it would give me a +4 inv save right? Slanessh would just give me i5 and khorne and extra attack....

Yes, Tzeentch would be better at saving them from low AP attacks, nugle is better for lower STR attacks such as bolters and whatnot.

Also, you can only fit 5 models in terminator armored a landraider, as terminator armor counts as two models for transport capacity.

I'm just wondering why you are caring about instant death on models with one wound?
And no they do not get to ignore instant death from str 8 or 9.

Ah god dam you are right. For some reason i thought they could transport 10 ....well they can but only in csm armour. And why wouldd i not worry about losing a squad of terminators from 1 ordanance blast and lose there amazing 2+ armour save and reduce it to a poohie 5+ we are chaos after all not a mere human ill have you know and 5+ save is just not good enough tosave from an ordanance instant death blast!!!!! Any how that saves me going out to buy 5 more terminators as i have 4 ready to paint!!

FNP can make this matter.

Except nothing in the Chaos 'dex gets FNP other than Plague Marines.

Perhaps the OP is laboring under the misapprehension that Instant Death negates their armor saves?

THats what I'm thinking.

Instant Death is on UNSAVED wounds. So an AP3, S8 blast would STILL let you take your 2+ armour save.

I'm just wondering why the OP isn't using other vehciles to provide obscurement for the land raider so it can reach the front lines and deliver it's massive unit of hurty on the enemy.

Most foes should be in cover, so you would have a cover save against enemy fire, negating the need for MOT and making MON more viable.

Then again, instant death only matters against multi wound models, such as obliterators and... I think that's it in the CSM codex. One terminator can die from a lasgun or a lascannon, the difference is the odds of getting lasered.

"This should never matter!" is hardly a reason something will or will not happen.

Rare occurances, freak accidents, anything not actually impossible will occur in a game at some point.
