Since Forgeworld apparently hates Tzeentch (he always comes last) and I felt like recreating Bob ( Bob's here, on the right: http://mitgas.deviantart.com/gallery/#/dyjf5e ), I'm trying to sculpt him myself. I finally saw out two of the old heads and after modeling the entire back of the second helmet, I thought why not go the whole way and get as close as possible to Bob? I love the 2nd ed 1k Son but his overall features are kinda stubby compared to the newer sculpts if you understand what I mean.

So i mixed greenstuff and milliput and got to work, this is what I have so far:

Obviously he needs his cables and (the hardest part IMO) the plating between his "brow" and the vent bfore the headdress but I think I'll get that done the next time I'm sculpting. Also he needs a backside but I'll just do a GS cast of the one I already did for the classic head. I'm cheap! Oh yeah, the flat spaces might seem untidy but it's very smooth in reality. I'm sure it will look very good once I cast it. Crits very appreciated - just don't break my heart, I'm a beginner!

I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.

Looks great! Reminds me of a cylon from battlestar galatica. I always thought they looked cool.

ROFL! Yeah, they always reminded me of Cylons as well!

I'm amazed how positive the feedback for "my" (after all, it uses the basic headdress so it's not really mine but why not use a perfectly fine headdress done by someone with much more skill than me?) first sculpt is. Thank you! I just wish I had more time/talent, so that I could be quicker. But I guess slow and purposeful is also my motto.

The old Thousand Sons models from the early 90s had mouth grilles like that too. I like it!

Don't try to be quicker! Every piece of advice I have found on the subject of GS sculpting says the slower the better.

Great job, I'll be sticking with this to see how it progresses. I'm with you - Tzeentch and 1k Sons in general don't get nearly enough love.

Yeah, taste the suckage! Took way longer than I wanted to as I followed Depraved's advice and took my time. Excuse the craptastic picture quality but my real cam was taken from me by my evil g/f.

I'm not sure if you can make out details but I sanded all parts so that the surfaces are very smooth and the lines are all pretty sharp. I hope it will work out well when i cast it. All it needs is another layer for the "ears" and a neck. The original sculpt which I'm basing it on is a bit crooked so mine's now as well (see the difference in size of the "ear" part) but it's not that recognizable IRL and since I suck hard at this I don't think I'll correct it as I now wanna get it done quickly and learn how to cast.

Any criticism, flames or praise appreciated.

I immediately thought "Cylon," as well. Not a bad thing, at all - I think the helmet fits rather nicely with the crest.

I based all of my depictions on this sketch by GW as I imagine this is what they would look like if they made them now with the classic helmet design:

There are however variations in the Index Astartes book, one of those variations was used for the 3d model I did for Dawn of War ages ago and now for my sculpt (basically the visor is not as broad). But it bears a lot of striking similarities with cylons (and to a lesser degree some old toys with magnetized boots that rocked), yeah. Which is nothing bad as I like the look of Cylons. (and the pic of depraved is damn funny! )

Yay, looks like I'm done! I could've saved time with that neck cause it's impossible to see it anyways.

Overall, I'm really happy how it turned out. I prefer its proportions over the the original ones and with a bit of paint I guess it won't look off amidst the pro-sculpts.

Now I play with the thought of doing Rubric Terminator heads ( http://www.thousand-sons.co.uk/images/thousand_sons_variants.jpg) or a head for my leader, which will be a totally insane sorcerer, who used to be an apprentice of Hathor Maat (his Pavoni cult was said to be very eccentric). I did a really bogus sketch for it but it brings the general idea across...

Will you be casting these? I'd be interested in buying some.

Sorry, but it's obviously not my property so I can't sell them. I'll see if it's "kinda legal" to just donate a few (I own 23 of the old TS models so I should theoretically be allowed to do 23 casts and I only need maybe 5 for myself) once I have learned to make a decent cast of them. If I pull off decent casts, I'll gladly send you a few.

On second thoughts, you're right, GW's legal dogs would be all over you. I'd much appreciate a couple, though, just for fun. I imagine I'd make a diorama of some description.
