After chatting to one of my friends who is going to make a '300' style spartan army I decided I wanted to start a World of Warcraft army based around Arthas as the Lich King. I thought about making a vampire counts army with lots of ghouls and other units based on the ones from the warcraft games. I was just looking for help with recommendations for parts to use to build arthas or for unit types. So far I am thinking of warriors of chaos mixed with dark elves for arthas or maybe green stuffing a character like Sigvald the Magnificent.

If money allows I would like to make about 1000pts but I am not too bothered about an official list. I am getting pretty handy with green stuff and I might build a frost dragon to go with the army too.

So any comments or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you can get your hands on it, Cypher from the 40k Range has a really awesome sword that would be perfect for Frostmourn. The Incubi Helmet might be a good base for Arthas's helm. There is also a rare Archaon on Foot figure that would be good for Arthas's body. Otherwise, see if you can choose something from the Warriors of Chaos range, as Arthas is a good deal more beefy than the vampires.

A Hell pit abomination would be a good starting point for an Abomination and there are certainly possabilities with creating Death Knights of all races. (minotaur as a tauren sounds fun)

Not much in GW's range that would help with a frostbrood... well, unless the zombie dragon is to your liking or you are willing to go to town with green stuff and a HE dragon.... I'd be tempted to make that a sculpt myself.

Do post pictures when you get going, this sounds like a fun project.

How about Vladimir the dark champion from the Warmachine Khador range as Arthas?

I have just looked on Ebay and managed to snap up Vladimir for £2 which seeemed like a good omen so I will use him as a base and probably either green stuff his bottom half or maybe swap it with some WOC parts. I might head to my local store and get some warriors as they have some nice cloaks and swords as well.

@MechaEmperor7000 I think you are right with Cypher's sword it is a very close match but can you order bits for him from GW?

@ Aurelia I would love to use a HPA but I would feel bad if I bought one and didn't use it for my skaven army as it is an awesome ratty invention. I thought about using some ogres or maybe even a Nurgle DP for the abomination, but I want to focus on Arthas to start with.

No suggestions yet for models but please be sure to post once you get started. I would love to see how this goes. I will keep an eye out for suggestions.

I searched for about 15 minutes to see if anyone was selling any Cypher bitz, but could find anything on the Bitz sites I checked or eBay. Hopefully you can trade for it, cause it's not worth buying a £10.25 miniature just for one bit.

I personnaly think using a chaos lord as the base, and increase his height like you do with basic TS marines. Add a blue glow affect on the eyes and voila! Tyranical leader of the armies of the damned and scourge of life

You can simply use many things from the Warmachine/Hordes range. They have a very WoW-ish aesthetic (for better and for worse) with exaggerated shoulderpads and eccentric posing.

I had a look around for Cypher bits but no luck unfortunately so I might pop down to my GW store and get a box of Warriors of Chaos and use there bits to make my own frostmourn.

@Winnertakesall do you mean use a Chaos Termie Lord for the base for Arthas?

Oh sorry, I wasnt very clear. I mean fantasy chaos lords, with some conversion. But no that I look, I think Sauron may look better

I get what you mean with Sauron when I look at him but I kind of want to build my own figure rather than just painting one thats already to go. I got a few bits together now so hopefully I can start work on him tomorrow and I will upload some pics soon.

No need to just paint him, make him look like the lich king. He needs a new sword, sligtly different helmet, and some shoulders. One thing that would look awesome but would tricky to pull off, make it look like flames are coming out of his eyes using GS, and then paint them blue like the lich king has. Eye slits are too small, enlargen those, he needs skulls on his knees, he needs a mouth piece, cut that out of saurons helmet.
