GW sent out an official world-wide missive!
Games Workshop Amsterdam are proud to announce that Black Library author, Gav Thorpe, will be visiting the store on Saturday 28th January, there to promote and sign copies of his latest novel, The Purging of Kadillus.
Sessions will be from 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm
So, if you've ever wanted to know more about the Space Marines, ask him about his work on the best-selling Time of Legends series or anything about any of Gav's other superb novels, make sure you get to Games Workshop Amsterdam this Saturday!
It should be pointed out that the last line will be nigh on impossible, seeing as the A'dam store is tiny and cramped.
Anyway, I'll be going there, get two copies of his latest novel and maybe sneak in a picture or two.

Who's bringing their Codex Chaos Space Marines for him to sign? But seriously, it's always fun getting books signed by the author. Enjoy. Mostly, I'd love to see Amsterdam. I ordered a copy of Kadillus from Amazon just yesterday.

I hope this still happens, I gather Mr. Thorpe has hurt his back somewhat.
It's a good read though, best in that series thus far IMO. Naaman is suitably badass indeed.

Chances are, if someone were to bring a Chaos codex along and made a funny or witty remark about it the staff might be all over him or her. Gav has a great sense of humour about it (just read the interviews), the current generation store staff sadly don't.
I might bring along Shadow King, which I enjoyed immensely and made me mad with waiting for Caledor. But if the crush is too much I'll just settle for two signed copies of Kadillus. And if Naaman lives up to his reputation then I'm sure my ex-Dark Angels playing friend will enjoy this one.

And back!
First things first:
First one again, eh eh eh!
Anyway, it was awfully quiet the first half hour or so, giving me ample time to talk to him. Overall he's a very nice guy with a good sense of humour (joking about AD-B's perma-scowl and calling the Eldar Prophecy novel something horrible while his novels the official thing on the Eldar) and again remarking that he still had to get his complimentary WD issue that had an interview of him in it, which he read up in the store. He also hoped that he would win the David Gemmel award so he could have an axe fight with Graham at the office. He also said that he was put up with the other "A-list" BL authors at long last, which in my opinion took them long enough.
I can't remember everything nor did I really probe him about future projects all that much, so be warned Stick Monkeys don't read too much into this. Work-wise he's pretty busy. Caledor is done and at BL, Path of the Seer has gone to the editor for final checks and his second Crown of Blood novel is also progressing nicely as he's done a rewrite recently.
Other snippets I picked up:
Path of the Outcast: It will be about the third "friend" mentioned in the Path of the Warrior novel, who is to become a Ranger and will show Eldar outside of the Craftworld. Exodites, Harlequins and Dark Eldar will also be featured in the third novel.
Horus Heresy Raven Guard: It will look at a great deal of Heresy era Ravenguard background, including what happens after the Drop Site Massacre. He also mentioned that a few of the less mentioned legions would be getting a novel in the indirect future, no names were mentioned as to who writes what. Also, his Ravenguard short story from the upcoming Age of Darkness will tie into the Flight of Ravens audio drama.
Times of Legend: While he wouldn't say what he proposed he did say that another author already handled it, but that it was an old story and would be his take on it.
Angels of Darkness: I mentioned that I loved the ambiguous (really struggled pronouncing that word for some reason) nature of the novel, in particular Astallan and the Fallen. Upon asking how he felt about the Fallen he told me that it would remain ambiguous especially in regards to Cypher and the Fallen, stating that while the fans want answers to everything the sense of mystery and provoking thought is better. In regards to Angels of Darkness he wanted to do three novels that more or less tie into the end of the novel after the the Chapter receives Boreas' last message. One would be about the Ravenwing hunting for the Fallen, the second about the Deathwing taking them in and the third about Azrael himself. He also mentioned wanting to do a novel about the post-Heresy Dark Angels coming across Fallen for the first time since the end of the Heresy, seeing as they had assumed that all the Fallen had been sucked into the Warp and died when Calliban went boom.
Misc.: He made mention of doing spin-offs for the Sundering Saga, in particular Alith Anar, so Kan, rejoice!
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a book to read.

Thanks.

Looking forward to see every Legion getting its time in the spotlight.
Seems he focuses on the mysterious ones and more DA novels could be nice if they tie in with the HH ones.

@1hadhq: From what I've gathered he likes to explore things but also leave things ambiguous and open to reader interpretation (like the Fallen). He's against explaining everything to the readers, as that would suck out all the fun.
@ the Red One: I've got an Abnett signature.
Sadly it's not personalized, but one day I will have him sign my hardback edition of Ravenor and tattered softback of Necropolis but with my name to go with it. Of course! Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yes, no Dennis! The manager also told the blue shirts present not to ask about him for some reason. They did however have a nice portfolio of Gav's work at the door, with on top the Chaos Space Marine codex.
