Probably unbelievable stupid Orc question.

I am new to warhammer and only about to start to collect an army.

I am reading the core book for first time and I read an odd part, according to the book orcs spores accidentally were brought to the world by old ones.

Did I just miss something or do orcs grow from spores or underground or plants or something?

IIRC yes, it goes the same way for the Ork codex, and the "fungal growth" thing is the reason they are supposed to be so resilient.

Good thing is, nobody has anti-fungal cremes yet, so they are free to plague the world

The rise of the greenskin races was a result of trial and error creation on the part of the Old Ones in the "early" years of the world. Keep in mind that 40k lore has no bearing here, so claims that they already existed elsewhere in the galaxy at the time are moot.

The Old Ones created and destroyed countless races and species while they experimented to find ones they thought would thrive and be well off. Elves, Dwarves, Humans and of course Lizardmen(which were created as a workforce and enforcement race, not so much meant to thrive on their own agenda).

The greenskins were found to be troublesome as they were spawning faster than they could be wiped out by the lizardmen armies. As such, they were never fully exterminated as the Old Ones had intended.

Ah.. don't tell me the 'orc - mushroom' thing has come into WFB as well? :(

I always liked the thought of a disapproving orc wife, hands on hips (with one hand holding a rolling pin) and wearing an apron, nagging her husband Zugbut that he better be back from pillaging for tea, otherwise there would be hell to pay! While little orclings ran around in the background chasing a piglet.

I'm not aware of any mention of female orcs or goblins at any point. The only model I've seen was an orc cheerleader for bloodbowl which is a non warhammer world game afaik.

So humanoid organisms normally reproduce like mushrooms by default?

For anyone who has a background of reading the vast multitude of fantasy, be it LoTR, D&D or whatever, a common conception surely has to be orcish villiages with dirtier and more crude equivalents of their human (or other race) counterparts. Males out hunting pigs and competing against other in games, women preparing food, leather clothing and the like, while loads of orclings scurry about the camps and make nuisances of themselves. If we were to be honest it's not like WFB differs from other fantasy archetypes in any significant way!

Having some kind of meaningful culture or society elevates the orcs beyond something which just comes across as a plague or infection growing in the mountains, and IMO adds a lot more character to them.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I'm waiting now for Dwarf women to disappear, and for dwarves to reproduce by just growing out of rock.

Pour beer onto a rock and glue a beard to it, it will turn into a dwarf.

Guaranteed.
