Deadly Dark Eldar Warrior

San Pedro, CA

So shortly before the release of the new Dark Eldar, I was contemplating a new army. Eldar had caught my eyes because of their sleek design and various aspect warriors, which allowed for a pretty unique looking force amongst the "one size fits all" Imperial armies. But I wasn't completely satisfied with typical Eldar, so I was aiming to do an Eldar Pirating force that used a mixture of Fantasy Elf bits, Dark Eldar and Eldar. Obviously, then, when I saw the new Dark Eldar models I was thoroughly intrigued and excited at the prospect of something entirely new and un-encountered.

As a community college student with a lot of expendable income, I kind of went hog wild with the new army and just unloaded a bunch of money as I took advantage of a few sales.

Yeah... It's almost disgusting.

Anyways, I had come up with a theme for my army after painting my local GW's Black Box figures. The Kabalite Forces of my Kabal would be based on the Joker's colours from the Batman comics. The Wyches would be entirely female, and they, the Hellions and the Reavers would utilize Harley Quinn's red and black diamond colours and patterns. And lastly, and definitely most exciting (at least to me), I would be using a Harlequin force as conversions for anything Haemonculi-related, and they would be painted in black and white schemes similar to the Royal Flush gang from comic books. Sadly, I haven't quite achieved what I imagined with them yet. But give it time.

So here's those fore-mentioned Black Box figures that provided a launch point for the rest of my army.

The basing would be changed to match the basing scheme I used for the rest of my armies - the black sand and burnt grass was a suggestion by the manager Mike. I would instead be using a forest-type scheme with some tiles to look like a ruined temple or something.

Here's some old pictures of what I had/have assembled.

Close-Up of my Wrack conversion, which will eventually be replaced by true Harlequin conversions. After reading more about Harlequins and seeing a ton of art of them, I'm not very satisfied with these Wood Elf stand-ins.

My Succubus

In-Progress Scourge Conversions

So thats what I have for now. I've also started on my Archon conversions and the Dracon for my blaster-toting Trueborn squad. I'll try to get pictures of them soon.

And for something completely unrelated...

My little brother showed an interest in Warhammer, so on a whim I bought him a few Tyranid boxes. Here's the quick-and-simple scheme I came up with for him in order to get him a decent but quickly-painted army on the table. I'm working on a Tyranid Prime model for his birthday, I'll try to get a shot of that up soon too.

Cheers, guys!

Jesus Christ, you do have a lot of money.

It looks great so far. Let's hope you don't get sick of painting all those DE.

Everything looks good so far. I'd use the real harlequin models though, they're just too good to pass up. Anything less would do your army a disservice.

This the start of a nice looking force. The raiders and warriors really make the point that going the extra step (banners, the sail fade pattern) has a big impact and makes for an eye-catching army.

How are you a community college student with alot of expendible income??? Are you inferring you have financial aid from the govt and instead of applying it towards your scholastic career you are blowing it on hundreds of dollars worth of GW merch?

The pics of that army look awesome, I love the sails and the colors used. I anxiously await updates of your massive army project!

Those models are amazing dude. The highlights on the armor and the detail on the banners and faces blows me away. I think your army is going to get its own display case in the shop haha.

Looks really nice. Great idea. Looking forward to more.

Just one concern, and I'm surprised nobody's noticed, and do hope you read this before more damage is done: The sail-slide thingamajig on that Raider is glued on backwards! The sail is supposed to be able to slide along its length, and one of the hangers-on is posed with its proper positioning in mind.

Hahahah. You got me. I assembled that thing from the Black Box, which had no instructions, and I had no picture readily available - the red shirt watching over my local store in the managers absence was hogging the damn thing. On the four Raiders and two Ravagers I'm currently painting, they're assembled in the forward and correct position. Thanks for pointing it out though! Hahah.

I'm currently trying to paint up 1250 points for a doubles tournament in two weeks, so expect some updates soon. I'm almost done with the previously mentioned Raiders and Ravagers, so look forward to them, some Wyches and Wracks, and hopefully some Harlequin-looked "Haemonculus'".

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I really appreciate such positive feedback. It kind of gets the motors working, if you know what I mean.

Sorry for the lack of updates. School has kicked back in, and things have gotten pretty hectic, less time for painting and all of that. However, I do have a little bit of stuff to show for it.

First off, unrelated to the Dark Eldar, an update on the Tyranid Prime I was making for my brother.

And now my Dark Eldar. I've begun painting the crew for my few Raiders and Ravagers that are assembled and mostly painted. The Raider crew are all pretty straightforward, but the Ravager drive and main gunner will have Corsair heads with sculpted necks.

I've also begun work on the first 20 Wyches.

And now comes my favourite part - the Bloodbrides. I decided that, since my Hekatrix (a Lelith conversion) has a nifty base, they should get some too since they'll likely accompany her into battle. So I gave each member of the squad some combination of plasticard tubing, railing and cork rock for their bases.
