so heres my starter list its basicly the battlefore and im wondering what i should add next ,preferebly something that doesnt cost too much (cash wise))

10 vets w/ grenadiers, heavy weapons team lascannon, sarge w/ power fist and plasma pistol, 1 plasma gun and a vox caster

I think the biggest problem is that you're spending WAY too many points on upgrades. The best thing would be to just buy more troopers (and chimeras if you're going for mechvet) so that you can actaully reasonable compete at higher points values, rather than relying on little more than bloat to fill points.

Other than that, I'd highly recommend getting some more special weapons. A vet squad with fist, plasma pistol, 1 plasma gun, one lascannon and a vox is 135 points of muddled confusion. That should look much more like a vet squad with 3 meltaguns and a chimera for 155 points, or something like that.

I would buy another infantry squad unit first and maybe a command squad box.

I would then look to go for CCS as HQ, PCS and 30 man blob for infantry. 1 HWS with lascannons.

CSS I would arm with plasma or melta, don't bother with the standard, medic etc.
PCS I would go 3*flamer (you should have the arm parts)
Infantry squad I would go sergeants with power weapons and a grenade launcher in each.

You will only have 1 troop choice, but with a commissar added this basic skeleton can work at all points levels from 1,000 - 2,000.

Too much bumph. There's an adage you need to stick to when building IG army lists: If it ain't a gun, don't buy it. (there is some inherent flexibility here if you are building an infantry list).

That being said it *is* difficult trying to build an army out of the battleforce as you get nowhere near the amount of special weapons you need to make each Vet squad effective. Also note that you cant have two heavy weapon teams in one squad.

As the skeleton is so rough there's really no way to know how to outfit the squads without looking at the bigger picture. Rather than list what you've already got, write up a 1k-1500pt list and we can advise your purchasing desicions based on what you want/what theme your after/what models you like.

I think you have to ask yourself what you want out of the army. Do you want a highly competitive force, do you just want to start playing and try out a bit of different forces and learn the game? Building a competitive 1.5k list without playing much is very hard.

In your situation I would probably pick up some more infantry (you will need this no matter what you play, use them as vets or just standard guardsmen), a Leman Russ Tank (gives a nice chunk of points for the money) and perhaps a chimera or two.

Then you can start playing some games and see what you like. If mech is what you like perhaps you will then continue to get more chimeras and other vehicles that work good together with them. If you prefer a lot of infantry you can always use the chimeras as bunkers for your command squads.

my goal is to try and make an uber-cheez imperoal gaurd army. any tips on how to do that from where i am?

Those are the two most competitive builds with IG at the moment. I'd probably advise you to break away from these moulds though as they are a) overused and b) a little boring.

That bit you wrote up is 1370pts, not just 1083 as an fyi

I am building an infantry IG army. Here is the list I am building to at the moment. This will be made entirely from 3 battalion boxes, 1 extra HWT, and I think one would need some extra plasma/melta guns, I had more than usual from the use of forgeworld kits:

Company Command Squad – regimental standard, autocannon, vox – 80

Sly Marbo – 65

Platoon Command Squad – 4 flamers – 50
Infantry Squad – meltagun, sergeant and commissar with power weapons, vox – 120
Infantry Squad – meltagun, sergeant with power weapon – 70
Infantry Squad – meltagun, sergeant with power weapon – 70

Platoon Command Squad – 4 flamers – 50
Infantry Squad – plasma gun, autocannon, vox – 80
Infantry Squad – plasma gun, autocannon – 75
Infantry Squad – plasma gun, autocannon – 75
Heavy Weapon Squad – 3 autocannons – 75
Heavy Weapon Squad – 3 missile launchers – 90

Sentinel Squadron – 2 autocannon, 2 hunter-killer missiles – 100

EDIT: to be clear, I am posting this as an example of how I am building an IG army without breaking the bank cash-wise (infantry from battalion boxes are more points per £ than a really lean mech army full of chimeras, vendettas etc). I am breaking the bank cash-wise via use of FW products, I don't need to give up any more! I'm not saying this is an uber-competitive list, but it should do well enough as a halfway-point to building a larger army. One of the nice things about IG is that when you collect infantry, most of the bodies, lasguns/special weapons/sergeants etc, could be easily reused in different squads and configurations just by adding vehicles and such.

Hope that helps. Buying battalion boxes is definitely the way to go over buying infantry/HWT boxes IMO.

A list of the tourny restrictions would help us help you with your army.
Foot guard is like this AFAIK:
CCS with some upgrades, mabe Straken.
PCS
3 infantry squads w/ 3 PWs
Commissar w/ PW
X2 or so
