Yesterday, I played against my friend's IG and lost miserably, mainly because all I had was a lord, 5 destroyers and 20 warriors, none of which could do much to his Chimeras, which he was hiding his men inside, so I couldn't get any kill points. How can I stop this sort of thing from happening?

My army to choose 1000 points from comprises of:
Spoiler:
HQ
Lord with Staff of Light and Resurrection Orb + additional wargear
Lord with Destroyer Body, Warscythe and Resurrection Orb + additional wargear
The Nightbringer

ELITE
4 Pariahs
6 Flayed Ones

TROOP
30 Warriors

FAST ATTACK
6 Destroyers
14 Scarab Swarms

HEAVY SUPPORT
1 Tomb Spyder with claws
3 Heavy Destroyers
2 Monoliths

What kind of armour is he taking? Any artillery, or just mechanised infantry?

There were 3 Chimeras, a Leman Russ (I forget which type, all I remember is that it had 5 small blast marker shots against me) and a Sentinel. All 3 Chimeras had infantry inside, and there was another infantry unit at the back of the map.

I think he'd enjoy that.

Right...
Well it's good news. There isn't a russ from the sound of thigs thats preventing WBB, but take a res orb anyway.

I can't tell you exactly what to take, but you should stay away from :

Nightbringer: At this points level, he isn't justifyable. Sure, he'll rip everything on the board up, but he won't make his points back. Unless it's annihilation, he isn't worth it.

Monolith: Same as the nightbringer, but slightly more justifyable, given the lower points cost.

Pariahs: Just don't go there. Seriously, don't.

What kind of mission is it? Are you allowing deep strike, infiltrate, etc?

I think the key is take down the armour and close with the remaining infantry ASAP. It doesn't look like your opponent has much that could easily handle a Monolith, especially if he's fielding an Executioner (5 plasma cannon shots per turn will definately do bad things to your infantry though). What about running a monolith and using it to teleport your necrons as close as possible to the enemy lines? You might also be able to use it as mobile cover for other advancing infantry/destroyers. Add in some fast moving Scarabs to focus his attention on something else and see how it goes?

I would go with:

Lord with res orb & Warscythe

2x10 Warriors

2x3 Destroyers

And then either 10 Scarabs with the disruption filed thingy, or how 3 Heavy Destroyers (probably individually)

Keep the two squads of warriors with the Lord together, preferably in cover, and as much as possible keep the Destroyers (and heavy destroyers if your using them) near, so they get WBB

At least thats what i would do (infact thats what i did on Tuesday in a 2v2 game against Nids and Eldar, i got phased out, but didn't do too badly all in all last 5 turns is a success in my book )

We play standard annihilation with all basic rules in effect, reserves, deep strike, infiltrate etc. Not night-fighting, though.

@rodgers37: I like that list a lot, I can see it working very well.

I think my main problem was that I was using a monolith yesterday, purely because my opponent had admitted he was terrified of it and I wanted him to fear it. Unfortunately, my scatter rolls were absolutely shocking.

That is what I was about the suggest. Try to get some side shots on his chimeras. The armor is much worse there. Also, don't worry about not killing the Russ at once with shooting; shaken is a win for you since it's not unleashing plasma-doom on you.

I'm going to guess that you both are forgoing the FOC as your initial list does this. In such circumstance, I'd go for:

2xWarriors(10)-360

4xScarabs(3)-192
L> Fields

2XLord-360
L> Rez Orb
L> Scythe
L> Body

Flayed Ones(4)-72
L> Fields

Total: 984, Can toss another scarab in with one of the groups.

I think that this build would prove very helpful as you can infiltrate the Flayed ones in and turbo boost the scarabs forward turn one while just advancing everything else steadily forward. You don't have any major threat unit but a bunch of little ones that can each wreck Any of his vehicles due to the fields and special Guass rules that any of the warriors guns will have. The Lords, having bodies, can be repositioned very quickly as needed, keeping the warriors safe when under fire and when not, go strongly on the offensive with their Scythes. You're CC is going to be lacking with anything but the Flayed and Lords so keep the warriors moving and ready to shoot as soon as they can.

I like the list, but we ARE using the FOC... He was using the chimeras as dedicated transports.

I suggest to take Wraiths. They are just awesome and are good against infantry and vesicles. I think that list would be like this: Lord, resorb, veil 200pts; ImmortalsX5 140pts; WarriorsX10X2 360pts; DertroyersX4 200pts; WraithsX2 82 pts Total:982pts

You know, if I bothered to read a little closer instead of wondering how in the hell you lost I'd realize that that initial 'list' was what you own...

Just smash Scarab Swarms together to get them down to just 3 squads and it should be legal though '>..>

For anyone that wants to know my list that I used yesterday (Bear in mind I planned it with about 5 seconds to spare before we started play), here it is:

HQ
Foot lord with Staff of Light, Resurrection Orb and Phylactery (Joined with one of the warrior squads)

TROOP
2x10 Warriors

FAST ATTACK
1x5 Destroyers

HEAVY SUPPORT
Monolith

The monolith was only in there to scare my opponent, and it worked
