So this is an army i knida inherited a couple years ago. I pulled it out the other day to start painting on it and had some questions for yall.
1) Are stealth teams worthless anymore
2) Is there any builds for Tau that are not all about the crisis suits.
3) Is there a style of them that any of yall enjoy to play even if its not eh latest and greatest. (example. something i dont know,
funny about playing 36 ripper swarms becuase they are annoying, probly not the best but kinda enjoyable)
4) kroot worth anything, and or hounds?
5)Footslogging Tau?
This is what i have and unless i trade some of it away i dont think i will buy anything for it.
1 farsight
1 HQ crisis suit
15 crisis suits
16 kroot
24 fire warriors
1 devilfish
1 hammer head
2 broadsides

Good list. Any specific upgrades to the Crisis Suits and Hammerhead? You do really need a Devilfish though...

1: Yes, Stealth marker teams are boss
2: It's hard to do without the battlesuits, but generally speaking you only really need two units of three at most
3: Ninja tau is an interesting way to play
4: Great objective holders and melee speedbumps
5: It can work, but you need lotsa troops and have kroot to wall off from assaulters.
Here is a good all round setup with what you got:
One commander with bodyguards and fusion plasma, plus one xv8 team with TL missile pods and flamers, two units of 3 stealth suits with two marker drones and 4 gun drones, two units of FW with tl and bonding, one devilfish with warfish setup, one railhead hammerhead, two single broadsides with a single shield drone, and one squad of your kroot.

Thank you, it's one of my standard setups when I run tau. The points cost may not be 1500 but it's the units I always consider.
To run that, generally you use your missile pod suits for anti transports, MC and light vehicle with the ability to deal with hordes that show up, that will show up.
The HQ is your anti-hammer unit, killing TEQ, MEQ and deep striking vehicles dead.
You stealth suits should infiltrate on the sides of your army and provide markerlight support on targets since their stealth field makes it incredibly hard to shoot them. Watch for outflankers though.
Your fire warriors can either hold a position on the table or you can put a single unit in the warfish to pull off a decent fish of fury with markerlight support. The warfish should provide interference mostly.
Your hammerhead needs to hit priority targets. Large clumps of units for the subminitions, and always shoot with your broadsides first so you don't waste the solid shot from the hammerhead on a tank they could kill.
Broadsides need to be flanking or defended by your firewarriors, depending on the enemy.
Your kroot should do one of three things: Melee screen, outflank, or infiltrate into some trees to provide a zone of control.
Ninja tau is tau that relies on the relay upgrade for your HQ and holding everything in reserve, then using the relay to bring in one unit at a time on at 2+. You basically try to keep all your units off the table and then alpha strike with shooting on turn 5. The bonus is you can always bring the one unit you need each round, well, almost always. To do this make sure everything can move and shoot, so advanced stabilizers on your broadsides is a must if you take them. There are a few guides on it, here is one ----> http://forums.tauonline.org/tau/67875-ninja-tau-tactica.html

The ninja is deffiantly intersting, Where in the codex does it state how many drones you can put with a unit?
like can you rum eight gun drones with a stealth team if you were so inclined os it just two per model

It's in the section that tells you about the drone controller in the wargear chapter. You can take two drones max, but if you take the drone controller you must take at least one drone.
Putting gun drones on a stealth team helps keep them alive when things manage to shoot them, that's really the only reason why they are there.

You got enough suits to run a Farsight Bomb list, which can be hilariously good or terrible depending on luck.
Don't have my codex on me at the moment but I am pretty sure if you run Farsight you can't use Kroot, so keep that in mind when list building.

Here are some interesting builds:
Seeker Missile Tau:
-3 Skyrays
-2 Units of pathfinders w/ Warfish w/2 Seekers each
-5 Piranhas w/ 2 seekers each
1151 points base
Farsight Bomb:
-3 units of 3 crisis suits
-1 commander w/ 2 bodyguards
-farsight w/ 8 bodyguards
980 points base (TL Flamer + BF for all suits... lol)
If you are doing a farsight bomb, I would go the full mile and get as many stinking crisis suits as possible...
I can't think of many other interesting builds. Swarming fire warriors can be interesting, as you can get 72 for 720 points, which can be a load of shots...

I always thought the alpha strike one with all the seekers would be kinda enjoyable. Never thought it was reliable enough to be competitive.
The Huge amount of crisis sutis with oshava would be kinda fun also...
SO nobody hate me for this but what are all the crazy names for the suit builds. firebomb?
Deatsnow rain whatnot.
what are the ones yall have had the most success with

I ran a list with:
Farsight
Shas'o with PR, FB, SG, MT
2 Bodyguards with TLPR and Shield Generators
3x 3 Fireknife Squads with 2 Shield drones
Team leader for free bonding knife
2 min Fire Warrior Squads, one with a devilfish with dpod
3 Broadsides with ASS and teamleader with TL
Hammerhead, pimped out or not depending on the points level
Think it was about 1750
Sure, it won't win most objective games, but it's fun to play.
