Subject: Need help with WIP Nurgle Rhino conversion....
Hello Dakka,
I literally just did this (so its not even properly dry, but i don't think that will make much of a difference), first though, some images
Can i get any advice on how to get the green stuff to look better? I was kinda trying to follow the guide on the modelling CSM details on GW site, but don't think i really did a good job. It looks ok, but could look better i think.
This is pretty much my first try at any proper green stuff work (other than fitting the odd arm etc on metal models, when i get bored of using Super glue ).
I'm thinking i might try and make my currently unpainted Space Marine army, all Nurgle and use them as count as Blood Angels (because i want a Storm raven mainly, i suppose i might play nice people who would let me use one in a Chaos army...), but not sure if it would look effective, just turning normal/standerd tactical marines/Terminators Nurgle style.
So any advice for my WIP Rhino, (and have another Rhino, a Razorback, Pred and 2 Land Raiders i can start converting up ) would be greatly appreciated.
P.S
I have a couple of those packs of GW Skulls, do you think they would fit in? I think they would look quite cool....
And i'm so glad i can finally ask for advice with pics to go alongside the post

I think your first and last screenshots looked the best. I used the rounded end of a brush to poke and push the greenstuff into place so that it a) looked like sores and b) so that the edges were blended into the surrounding hull as best as possible.
get some of those to get a smother transition between gs and the tank itself.
also you shouldnt put the gs in random places but make it look like its coming out of the inside.
paintwise id recommend a white basecoat, followed by a rotting flesh/white mix (something like that, guess you get the idea) followed by different washes in differnt spots.

ON THE BATTLEFIELD THERE IS BUT ONE COMMANDEMENT...
"THOU SHALT KILL"
Thanks for your advice so far.
I will hopefully get a chance to do a bit more work on it today, maybe get it paitned over the next few days. And then work on the next one.
Sorry for the bump.
But some more painting advice is needed.
I like HamHamLunchbox's idea, but not 100% sure how well it will work.
Essentially, i don't mind it being Green, but i kinda want to go for a lighter look, but i don't know how it would look. And i seem to be incapable of finding any kind of result in any searches i make.
I agree with HamHam, you need a smoother transition with your green stuff. Also I would work on improving the fine details of the green stuff. Its a nice start though

I definatly know what you mean about the Green stuff, and i will try and improve that next time. Any more tips on painting would be great
use water or alittle veggie oil on your finger or tool to smooth out the GS. Also try to find various sizes of ball point pens and taking them apart. You can use the tubes and the different size round opening of the pen to make boils and warts of various sizes. Just press the round opne parts into the gs and then round off the imprinted shape. And how about scupting a few eyeballs coming out of the armor or maybe some tentacles? Horns are great too. Try this, Roll out your gs to the shape of a horn then put it under a desk lamp to let it harden. Drill a hole in the spot you want to put the horn and super glue it in then build gs around it to blend it into the body. YOu can also add teeth to the tank like this.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, if you get your fingers wet it won't stick allowing you to smooth it out. Also if you want to make some weird texture you can take a cheap tooth brush that you don't mind loosing and dip it in water and press it against the greenstuff and you'll get the effect of a bubbly sore filled skin.
The only thing to remember when painting nurgle, is there is no such thing as a ugly green .

What i did for my deathguard rhinos was to cut the fly symbols of nurgle out of cardboard and glue them on the roof hatches of the rhino.
Another simple thing to do is to take some green stuff put it onto the rhino and then make an imprint of the mark of nurgle from the chaos vehicle bits.
Or just take some heads and glue them on and then use green stuff to make it look like they are coming out of the surface.
For a darker paintjob i found it quite nice to use a desert yellow basecoat, then i used skorched brown and mixed it with a lot of water and painted 2 times over the whole tank.
After the brown i painted certain areas with camo green and finished it with another layer of watery skorched brown.
Another Rhino of mine has a brighter paintjob with a goblin green basecoat, with camo green painted areas and then 2-3 times watery snakebite leather. At last drybrush with bleached bone over the whole vehicle.
I kinda used the watered paint as some sort of wash, because at that time i didn't use washes (i don't know why).
