What's the general thought on using Mekboyz in mobs of Lootas? Worth having one less Loota? What weapons are the ideal outfitting for them?
I only ask because of the boxed set that only gives you four Lootas, plus a Mek, so seeing if it's worth using them after all.

Well, a Mek in a Loota mob is actually a bad idea, since the weapon he can take does not complement the Loota weapon in range and 'dakka'.

I was afraid that may be the case. A shame.

? just add a box of boys and you've got 5 burna boys and 5looters and a mek... Also while it doesn't have the AP or Strength ... a mek with a big-shooter can always shoot 3 shots. Its not for everyone since you do give up the strength 7 and transport hunting is their main roll.

Really it depends on choice. Im still a firm believer in, dont waste your time with a mek. MAYBE if they are in a vehicle, but even then, your just sitting still shooting. Just convert a loota from the piles of Orky you have, I know you can make one. Presto 5 lootas. And as Tri said, buy a box of boyz, and now you have lootas AND burnas from 1 box. Not a bad deal really.

The only part I could agree is, its a box of 5 yet there isnt 5 of the same weapons, thats it. Its still a good box. And if you dont want burnas then I dont know what to tell you honestly, deal with it??

I do actually want the burnas and I do in fact "deal with it".. Doesn't stop the box being a rip off.
For example if I want a full squad of Lootas I need 4boxes?

The fact that it includes 1 utterly useless option and 4 possibly uselfull options doesn't make it ok. If you go to a store an want to by 5 pens and the store offers you a pack where you pay for 4 pens 1crayon and 4 pencil sharpeners then you would tell them to @%# off

Actually, considering that a Loota boy is a boy who has a big weapon made up of looted weapon parts, I use the Mek's as part of my Loota squads as Lootas. I just make sure not to put the "mek head" or the mek backpack on the model. This leaves you with a model holding a "looted" looking gun.

One thing I will NEVER understand is ork players complaining about whats in a box, come on were orks be creative, pull some shootas and bits from your bits box and make a deffgun for that mek boy. Or convert boys to make full use of the kit, I have tons of AOBR boys sitting around to make use of all those bits and its even cheaper than buying an actual box of boys, harder to convert but again we are orks figure it out.

This is a social hobby. If you buy a box of Lootas and don't feel like you're getting your money's worth....

1. Trade the burna bits out for Loota bits. Voila! You get 8 Lootas out of one box! If you have even basic converting ability (like gluing the end of a shoota and a couple of shooty bits that are extra in every sprue, you can get 10 Lootas out of one box!

2. Convert. Spruce up some Big shootas. I added a couple of battlewagon big shootas onto a normal big shoota to make a deffgun.

To the OP: Avoid mixing meks into your Lootas - you decrease the effectiveness of your Lootas.

Why don't you just arm the Lootas + 5 boyz with 5 Deff Gunz and 5 Skorchas and just call them 10 Lootas with 10 Deff Gunz?

Do you have a problem doing this? Does anyone you play with have a problem with this?

The only time I have seen Mek boyz in Loota squads used effectively is when those lootas were burnaboyz and the Meks were taken as casualties in HTH first...

I could see the following for 225 points:
12 Burnas, 3 Mek boyz with Kustom Mega Blastas...

While riding in a Battlewagon you got 3 chances to remobilize, 4 if you have grot riggas (that is 87.5% and 93.75% chance respectfully), and against most opponents, you take 3 wounds before swinging anyway... Flame template wise, 12 is usually enough to wipe terminators off the board.

12 x 4 hits. 48 hits, 24 wounds, 4 dead terminator...
3 KMB shots, 1 hit, 5/6 wound, 5/18 dead storm shield terminators or 5/9 dead lightning claw terminator...

Honestly if those lootas get into HTH, they usually lose, If they get shot at, they usually flee. Thus anything detracting from the Deffgun output, the reason you are spending 15 points on them, is a waste...

Guys I'am not looking for sollutions for the Loota box. All that is written above I know and most I have already done. I have 30 lootas and 16 Burnas so as you can guess 14 Lootas are conversions and in general I try to put some effort into the presentation of my models.
This is irrelevant to the fact that the box is scam. You want to buy product A and you dont get all of A you need but hey! have some B which might come in usefull. If you are actually shopping for burnas and using these boxes things become alot more difficult as converting a burna is not nearly as easy as converting a loota.
At the very least I should be able to make 5 lootas out of the box without! having to convert. Boys and Nobz are both great boxes with loads of extra parts.
@Dash you cant get 8 or 10 lootas out of the box as there are only 5 bodies (4 loota/burna & 1 mek) in it.
You can actualy get 10 lootas out of the Boys box which is well worth its money
