I finally got my hands on the beautiful ForgeWorld Revenant titan.

All of the negative things I've heard about FW are true.

The 'quality' is non-existent. The chief problem is a warped sonic lance. What are the simplest and most error-proof methods for fixing such things? I've heard heating the piece with hair dryers, boiling water, praying over it...? Any help? Will clamping it for a few days do the trick? Or hanging weights from it? I was considering boring it out and running a brass rod down the center...

2) I'm wearing a simple painting mask of the kind you get 6-for-a-$ in a bag. Is this sufficient protection - or do I need a paint mask? I've had to sand every freaking square millimeter of the darn thing so far...

3) Is superglue (cyanoacrylate) good enough for resin, or do I need something else?

Any other hints or tips also appreciated. Beautiful model...not nearly worth the price. Never again.

Thanks.

FW will replace it if you ask them nicely, they are good with such things, but you will need to wait while they cast you up another one.

Patience is not my strong suit. ;-D

It's not like it's bent into a pretzel. It should be salvageable.

1) Putting it in hot water (not boiling) for a while and then bending it _gently_ into place is normally enough. Bigger pieces can need some fixing after heated. If it's very out of shape just bend a bit, then reheat in warm water and bend more step by step. Fitting is not always that good either and some green stuff or other filler can be useful to fill in the gaps.

2) I dont dare to give any safety advices but I use a mask of the type used when grinding floor (for example) which I think should be enough. Just remember to vaccum the area once you are done so you dont get the dust into your lungs after you are done.

3) Superglue works but for bigger parts it's really recommended to pin them in place. Should be some good threads on how to do this in the forum.

Good luck with the titan!

If you're in an open area you don't need any portection.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Thanks everyone. I'm going to see if the boring idea will work tonight, as I need to pin it anyway (I know all about that - I pin everything).

So over the month or so I have been building and painting my Revenant Titan (shameless plug). Good choice on pinning the model, of all the models i have done this one was the most necessary, especially if you are going for a really dynamic pose. As for straightening the weapons my favorite way is to use a positionable desk lamp (mine gets freaking hot). Place the lamp such that it is up nice and close and keep a close eye. wait a couple of minutes then check by bending it, you will be able to feel the difference. Once it is pliable, put a little tension on by pulling from both ends and wait for it to cool. Worked first shot when I did my pulsars and back fin.

While a one off project may not kill you, it also would not hurt to wear a proper safety mask imho.
The ones you describe will say on the packet that they are not suitable to protect against toxic dust/paint fumes or anything that you want to stop getting into your lungs.

A proper dust mask would be a good idea.
Also be careful with the vacuum cleaner. They suck. But they also blow air out the the other end which will stir up resin dust.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

For keeping that lovely resin dust o' doom out of your lungs, spring for a semi-decent respirator. The link below has one on Amazon that meets all government regulations for blocking out toxic particles (ie, resin dust), and it's not going to break the bank.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

I have a Rainbow cleaning machine (no it doesn't go on parade or sanitize atmospheric phenomena). With it running, it'll suck the dust in and immerse it in water. There's no exhaust to worry about. Tonight, I just worked in front of the intake when I had any sanding to do. Worked pretty well. I'll get a better mask, too. Thanks for the advice.

I'll try unbending with the lamp method. Sounds reasonable. Thanks.

The pose should come out very dynamic. I'll post a pic when it's finished. Gonna be a few days, at least.

Oh,and that titan is awesome! Well done. I actually had one of those very craters in mind for a base, but had discarded the idea in favor of an "eldar" looking shrine thingy that is really just a busted candle stick. I'm using that for the construction, but may go to something else before I finish.

Resin dust and most forms of manmade material develops kind hook like surfaces similar to velcro which unlike natural dust particles tend to get stuck on everything at a micro scale including your lungs I would recomend you get yourself the best dustmask/respirator you can afford and your vacume bath thing sounds like a great idea

If you are using any sort of power tools such as a Dremel, you'll want a proper mask. If you are using hand tools, a mask probably isn't necessary. Either way, make sure you clean any dust/shavings promptly.

No power tools, just bits of sandpaper and a few small files. I am going by the hardware store later and getting a real mask, however. Love the plentiful, quick and friendly advice. Not sure why I didn't join DakkaDakka sooner.
