A while back I got a rather beaten up looted Rhino as part of a trade and was struggling for ideas of what to do with it, my Orks already have a fair few looted wagons and some how the Rhino just didn't quite fit in.

Then I struck upon an idea that I could build a vehicle which didn't neccesarily have a battlefield purpose but was just a cool addition to my collection and maybe a good scenario objective.

After a bit of head scratching I figured that seeing as most Ork equipment is looted, scavenged or just stolen any self respecting Mek would have some sort of 'recovery' vehicle for getting his new possesions back to the workshop quick smart before the deathskulls had a chance to ferret it away.

My main inspiration were the AVRE variants used by the Royal Engineers, including;
Trojan, FV180CET and the new Terrier CET with these in mind, my beaten up old Rhino and a box of Ork and Guard vehicle bits I came up with this;

Features include mechanical tow chains, an extra large engine to cope with towing 'eavy gubbinz, a large mine plough/scrap pusha, a grabin' klaw and plenty of spare bitz for field repairs.

Overall I am really pleased with how it has turned out, but could do with some suggestions for a snazzy paint job. I'm trying to avoid red, as most of my trukks are red.

As usual all comments and suggestions are gratefuly received.

What colours are your Big Mek painting him to match might work. If in doubt with looted vehicles your chief opponents colour scheme with Orky Grafiti is always fun!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Don't really like the claw, it just looks kind of tacked on. Nice work on the rest though.

yeah id maybe trade the slicey looking claw for a more grabby(none bladed) claw e.g. the kind of scrap grabbing claws fitted to jcb's used in scrap yards.

as for paint job, id really like to see you try a yellow/black chevron warning pattern, that would be neat

The claw does look a little bit out of place but maybe something on the other side to compliment it will offset the balance between the right and left sides of the tank.

Thanks for the comments so far guys, I know what you mean about the claw seeming a little out of place, I do have some spare dred close combat bits so I will see if I can change it, I also may add a grot with a wrench to the other side just to balance the model out a bit.

As for colour scheme I definately want to incorporate black and yellow hazard lines into the model, possibly on the dozer blades. Otherwise I am tempted to go for a Blood Axe camo theme with some sort of obscure marine chapters colour showing through to give a clue as to the previous owners.

I'll have a tinker and post some more pics later on

I think the claw looks fine, maybe anouther, smaller claw on the other side would do good. I like the ideas for the hazard lines. Great model, good job!

I like the lift chains on the back. Nice touch.

I'd have blunted the claw to make it more "grabby," or added a second claw. One to slice the stuff up & the other to pick up the pieces. LOL

For my next point, keep in mind that I understand the idea of "If an ork thinks it'll work, then it will," and am not leaning on it.

I'm not a fan of your engine placement. Even an Ork Mek understands the basics of engines and knows that the way you have your blower is all wrong. It should face forward.
The minimum I would do is cut it off & face it forward.

If it was my vehicle, though, I'd look at the possibility of carving a hole in one side of the front place and try to stuff the engine in there, so it faces forward. This would also leave you the back und of the vehicle open for carrying capacity.

I do like what you've done here, though.

You should look at FW rules. There's a vehicle called... I think it's called a loota wagon? Essentially, it's a Big Mek's vehicle. You could always use it for that. I think it's in I!8.
