So I have been playing Orks for just under six months now, and I am starting to get a good horde going (around 85 boyz so far, but more on the way, Waaagh!). I wanted to ask Dakka: how important is a PK nob in a mob of boyz, from what I have seen he is pretty mandetory. I was wondering whether I could drop him on units that I was planning to run with an IC anyway. So how important are the nobz?

ICs can get singled out. You need a hidden PK in any large unit of boyz.

Right behind you. No, really.

nobz (the Hidden Powerklaw tactic) are one of the ork player's most important tools.
Always, always, take them.

You dont want 30 boys tarpited by a single dread do you? Also when assaulting space marines or anything with a good save the PK usually ends up doing the most towards combat res.

Vs. a great many things the boys are just wounds for the pk as they cant hurt or have very little chance to hurt whatever they are in combat with. Tomb stalker, dreads of all types, MCs ect.

Quick correction: Str8--they just errata'd that in the new FAQ.

Still, yes, they're essential in a Green Tide army.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

Wait what?! Str8 on the charge for a nob? How do they figure that one out?

Can you post the link for that, Im failing to find where it says that on the GW site.

No that's weapons that strike at a specific strength.

Power claws do not always strike at Str8, they strike at double the models strength, this is a big difference.

Also check page 7 where they give out this example

Thanks Tri, I was about to blow a gasket reading that

I think that that's incorrect, the FAQ states that a unit with a "weapon that strikes at a specific strength value" doesn't benefit from Furious charge(P5 pf the BRB FAQ). This means Relic blades, Gabriel Seth's Blood Reaver Ect. A Powerfist or powerclaw doesn't strike at a specific strength, it strikes at double the models strength(in the case of nobs, 4*2+1 with FC). Big choppas should also get a bonus from Furious charge(they're strength bonused, but don't have a specific strength value assigned) , striking at S4+2+1, or S7. Relic blades are a Power weapon that strikes at strength 6(not strength 4+2), and thus subject to that ruling.

Or am I misreading what appears to be a fairly clear ruling? It says that weapons that strike at a "specific strength value" don't benefit from FC, not that no strength bonused weapon did.

EDIT: misspeeled specicic

You need the PK in the group to be a real threat. Without it your squad could just get tarpit-ed by a random walker or monsterous creature or two.

Let's just put it this way ... my friend and I (both Ork players) refer to boy mobs as "Power Klaw Delivery Systems".

Men, I am not ordering you to attack. I am ordering you to die. In the time that it takes us to die, other forces and commanders can come and take our place.

Wait, there's such a thing as boyz without a PK nob?

I don't believe it.
