In the Wasteland

Hi.

Are there any of you who are just too ashamed to field a particular model/unit/army, because the paintjob just hurts you eyes? I have a Chaos space marine army, in wich I use too much proxies, They are all painted in different warband colors. Word bearers, My own warband, World Eaters, Death guard.... Besides that, I have loads of old DE models I use in a new army that I still need to paint, they just look horrendous.

so, any of you have models you are ashamed of fielding?

I've used Rhinos and the like I painted when I was a bit younger that really aren't up to snuff. My Space Wolves army is about 95% unbased, even if it's pretty much all painted. I'm not sure I'd say "ashamed" but I personally have an issue when my models don't look up to snuff.

One of my daemon princes (the first one I painted). It doesn't look -bad-, but the others look a lot better, so it does stand out.

Can't say I'm ashamed to field anything due to it's paint job, more or less the lack thereof on my orks though...

I bought a predator off ebay that was painted already, and the lascannons had broken off the sponsons.

My father (wrongly) suggested using Laquer thinner to remove the old paint. If you have never seen this effect, after a short period, it makes the plastic soupy and gooey, and creates little air bubbles (almost swiss cheese style).

So the entire front end of my pred looks like someone took a blow torch to it. The Aquila just looks like a ovalish blob.
Facepalm 1:

So after that, thinking myself pretty smart, I needed to attach the lascannons some how. Lacking magnets, or the knowledge how to use them, I turned to the next best thing: bolts. I drilled holes through the lascannons and sent bolts through them, then held them on with a nut. Because of the way the lascannons are built, I needed to mount them sideways so I could drill the hole (in retrospect this was a really good idea, however the execution looks like gak).
Facepalm 2:

So I have a half melted Predator, with extremely orky looking Lascannon sponsons. Whats next? Painting of course. So I break out the spray gun and get a good coat of snot green (I play salamanders) on there. After this first coat, I realize my tank looks like an ork looted wagon that has been taken by Nurgle.
Facepalm 3:

I decide at this point it isn't worth wasting any more time on this thing. I'm still using that predator, only because it's the only one I have, and I don't have the money to buy a new one. Lucky for me, I mostly play with close friends in their basements, so it doesn't see the light of day very much.

@praetorDave: That story's worth a facepalm. Some bad luck ey? Well good thing nobody except your friends need to see this.

My old DE army often finds it way into the local gw. And when I game, mostly on saturdays, when it's the busiest time of the week, customers, or just people who don't know what this all is about come to the table, and gawk on the models. When you fight with badly painted miniatures, That's something to be 'ashamed of'. That way, you don't really show off, but they will see your baddest painted models.

Ok my LR is pretty much the same as the predator, except I bought mine brand new and decided to try out using white primer. Normally I would primer with my usual black, and then go through thin layers of white and red, and then gradually get to the right shade of red.
But, I was in a hurry to field it painted in just a few days, and quickly put it together. I shook up the paint and started spraying. To my horror, at some point the paint decided to thicken and I ended up with half a land raider looking normal and the other half like some kind of blob. I quickly tried to remove, scrape, and strip away the bad paint. I eventually gave up and decided to just go ahead and paint the thing. I magnetized my lascannons on, but they would alwasy flop off- I have now just glued them on.
I had to play the game with it, as is... I like my work to be pretty high in quality, but felt bad about it. Everyone else said it really wasn't that bad. But, it looks more like someone took a flamer or melta to the side of it. I'm working on adding battle damage to that side, so hopefully I will not look like bad painting. But, to me it seems a bit embarassing. I know longer use white primer. I only use black and let my airbrush do the rest.
