I recently started the hobby with the AoBR-Box Set and a squad of Sniper Scouts.
After I finished my first squad (the Scouts) I decided to try something different and continued with an Orkboy.
Just to decide if I keep them (the Orks) or sell them.

How do you like him?

-> I allways fail at including pix directly on the board. If anyone could help me I would even eat an Orkboys pants.

The first pic is not working for me...

Nevertheless, the orc looks great, I like it!... and I really like the base!!

I like it

How did you highlight the black leather?

I did try highlight black leather with drybrushing dark grey color on my orcs but it looked proper mess :(

I gave it a drybrush with Adeptus Battle Gray, followed by a wash of badab black to dull it down again.
Don't know if this is a common method, but hey... Just be creative. ^^

I do the same thing for my Goff boyz. I like him, but would recommend re-doing the pants. Maybe do scab/mechrite red as a base and drybrush blood red or a mix of mechrite and blood red. Red is really hard to get right without being too thick.

Alternatively, just call it red camo pants. =-)

Painting red would not be the big issue.
I tried to go for a really dirty look, but it didn't turn out the way I like.
I can totally understand your critic.

A good and solid start to the Orks, look nice as a whole horde

I think the pants look good as is, dirty worn red looking cloth/leather etc, nowt wrong with that.

Looks good, but the ork is wearing gloves. You only painted the cuff-part of them.
Other than that, I suggest keeping them

You have a point man!
I took them as some sort of wrist band. ^^
I will redo it.
Thanks!

Yeah, you can see on the ork's right hand where the glove ends. Harder to see on the left hand from the pic.

But it does look good. Better than most of my horde-equivalents for my Tyranids.

Yeh think the red pants look pretty good! keep up the good work. i think the highlight on the shoulder pauldron is a bit scruffy. i think for metals base, wash, drybrush is the method i usually go for. Just my 2pence and not be taken as gospel

It was my first attempt on plain metal armor.
It wash primed black, heavily drybrushed with boltgun metal and then washed badab black. Maybe I should leave the edge highlighting. Is that what you mean?
Thanks for your advice!

I think the edge highlighting could be tidier, if however you are like me and have a non steady hand, my edge highlighting is terrible!!!

keep it up!!
