3 of us are looking at starting Warhammer.

Two Friends like the armies presented in Islands of Blood so that will be their start. while I like Tomb Kings and/or Goblins. so I have two questions.

1.) Can Goblins be played as a pure goblin army? and I see their is a new codex(?) coming out for them. would this change them?

2.) would we be a intro force for either Goblins or TK at the same point scale as what is in the Islands of blood box?

if you can sum them up, what are both factions play styles like? I haven't read much into it, I just enjoy their models

we are going to start this small and scale up, we learned the hard way with 40k that buying large amounts of models kills peoples souls.

thank you for the help in advance

-Toeko

p.s. is their any "guides" for people wanting to transition into warhammer from 40k?

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

1) most likely but we won't know untill next month.

2) not sure

tome king I don't know their playing stlye because I haven't played against them. With the goblins playing style I don't know what their new playing style would be but will properly be swaming the enemy with numbers backed with war machines.

It's not the right time to start TK. There are rumors suggesting they will get a release this summer.

I agree with him, after seeing the spider I want a heavy spider Themed Goblin list. I know its possible lol but as what to buy to keep it on par with what the others will have I got nothing.

so Goblin spider list on par with Islands of Bloods two factions would be great. thanks

After seeing that spider I started rethinking playing Tomb Kings.

Actually, it made me think about starting Fantasy at all.

I do not like spiders at all, and it is really well done.

heh

Certainly with the new army book, O&G would be the way to go. If you can find an old skull pass starter set that would be a good start. The O&G brigade is another good idea. Fantasy is more forgiving than 40k as far as buying models like you said.

Thanks for the help.

were just going to share the Islands of Blood for now so we can all learn the game. once the new goblin stuff comes out they will expand and I will buy an equiv army, this way I can make sure everything works with their current codex.

One more question for possibly a 4th member wanting to play.

He would like to know if he could play a Troll army count as Ogres?

I told him sure, starting off it will be us 4 playing together, but I was curious about any animosity he would receive from your typical LGS, and also what about tournaments.

thanks once again

You know kirsanth there is nothing wrong with havinf arachnophobia, or any phobia at all for that matter, but you might stil want to seek to get rid of it. Never let fear rule your life, i had
acrophobia and got rid of it by stubbornly going to high places.

use your fear to make your army strong.

Fear becomes Hate, Hate becomes Strength, Strength becomes Victory

Trolls Counts as Ogres would be tough. especially since Trolls have Regeneration. Ogres can GET regeneration, but it isn't a sure thing.

you would have to be clear as to what was what and be consistant.

Why not just play Ogres as Ogres. would be far cheaper(Trolls are expensive models) and the models are quite good sculpts.

Yeah I think trying to use trolls as ogres would be pretty expensive.

Island of Blood is a good place to start out. The High Elves have a little more points than the Skaven but you can fix that pretty easy.

TK is about your leaders buffing and reanimating your skeletons. Lose your leaders and you start falling to pieces. They really are in dire need of a new book. They didn't get a lot of love with the release of 8, while groups like Orks and Ogres got a ton of love just by a few rules changes (steadfast/stomp).

But really there just isn't much diversity for TK. And Indiana Jones is always trying to steal your casket of souls :(

Haha good one

I've always thought a well painted TK can look great, especially on a themed desert board (if you want to go that far!) Whatever the new army books, you can expect the TK's causing of psychological tests to play havoc with a low LD goblin army..

I've played a Goblin army and sold it too my buddy and TK I've been looking into for a while now. TK are shooting/magic heavy while goblins are balanced and very unpredictable. While my dwarfs are the most reliable army with their high leadership, weapon skill, toughness and armor saves, goblins are the least reliable. I recommend getting the max amount of war machines possible, 2 doom divers, 3 rock lobbas, 6 spear chukkas. Then buy up old Battle for Skull Pass goblins, hit up bazaars, craigslist and ebay. Run big units of goblins 50-60 with netters, put 2-3 fanatics and a warboss or big boss in each unit, add 1-3 shaman and maybe even a savage orc shaman for access to Big Waghhh spells. Fanatics are always fun to see where they go, they are possibly your only real damage option they just wreck stuff, however they are sometimes not fun to play against. Str5 plus AP, D6 hits, there is a way to release them at an angle so when you are charged the person charging likely takes a hit from passing through them then a further hit for landing on top of them. The fact that flyers have to stop and land to be hit by them is kind of a stupid rule that just does not make sense. But the turn after they are released, I have seen many a fanatics go straight into another goblin unit or a 6 rolled for animosity and they go back through the unit. I've also had my units stand completely still as not to move over them, they really just prevent you being in combat which is great if you have bows.

Their low leadership is a weakness, and speaking of TKs I've heard of games where a screaming skull catapult hits an orc or goblin turn 1 and they panic (any wounds caused by this catapult force a panic test) causing units within 6inches of them to leadership test panic and so on then the next thing half of their force has run off the table edge. BSB rerolls help but when you are dealing with a base leadership of 6 or 7-8 from a warboss it's not too unlikely that they will panic, and with skulls of the foe upgrade on the catapult they are at -1 leadership.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Respect. I don't think I'll ever get over my fear of heights. I have a hard enough time going to work on the fourth floor in our office.
