Subject: Red Dead Redemption, WTF how do I keep track of quests?

I just got Red Dead Redemption today, and I am confused. I know how to get to all of the main quests and stuff; just go to that letter B or M or whatever else on the minimap. But all of those other small quests, how the hell do you keep track of them? That journal thing is the worst designed quest menu I've ever seen, and I can't scroll down for some reason; it just brings me down to challenges instead of scrolling down in the journal. Is there some incredibly simple thing I'm missing here or what?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Seriously? no comments yet? Or is Red Dead redempion's quest interface thing really that crappy? Automatically Appended Next Post: I mean, how the hell do you even scroll down on the journal without going down to the frikkin challenges section?

Take a deep breath and WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO DROP BY.
As for the Strangers Tasks, they happen when they happen.

It has been a while since I played it, but are you selecting before you try to scroll? Are you using the correct thumb stick to scroll? Are you using the D-pad to scroll? Have you looked in the instruction booklet?
Failing the above, I would suggest going to the Rockstar website and looking at their support section.

Ooft, its been a while, but I recall there being a section in the Journal (Press Start>Journal) that covers the quests. It covers all the collectible ones etc, find a guy x flowers, feathers, as well as all the Survival things too.
The ones given by strangers such as go to A, rescue my wife/husband/children and get them back to me are best tracked on the map itself, as they show up as purple circles.
At work just now so can't check for you, but this is roughly what i remember!

You have to select a menu item to be able to scroll down (Press X or A, depending on your console). I don't know why they didn't just let you use the right analogue stick to do this like you could in Grand Theft Auto, but oh well. As said before, the stranger quests are tracked in the journal, and the next objective in a stranger quest is generally denoted by a large purple circle on the map. The question mark that signifies a stranger quest only appears when you're close enough to the NPC who gives you the mission. Skill challenges are also tracked in the journal. Worst design for a menu you've ever seen? I seriously doubt that.
