Subject: More Large Monsters on the Way?

Now, until about a year ago I had taken a several year break from Fantasy, and since I returned I have noticed models are getting bigger
Now firstly there's Warhammer Forge, which is making large resin models (like that amazing Toad Dragon). The new plastic Giant, Stegadon, High Elf Dragon, Screaming Bell and just recently the Hellpit Abomination and the Arachnarok have been showing up and they still have many large metal models like the Hydra and Greater Daemons around. Not to mention the entire Ogre Kingdoms race.
So really I have to ask, does anyone else think that in the future there's a good chance of a lot more huge monsters on the way?
And for that matter metal monsters like the Hydra or Wyvern being made into larger plastic kits?

I don't have much experience playing WHFB but from a 40k Stand point I feel like Games workshop is finally accommodating all the the players who have played for years and have 40K+ worth of points in armies and are releasing larger models because larger battles are more prominent. while allowing newer players to amass larger armies(point wise) easier due to the large models.
I'm really not sure if that made sense. Im terribly ill right now so to me that could beat out the best authors in the world. . . Bleck. . .

Yeah we're for sure getting more monsters. The Stegadon is big, but I would say the Screaming Bell really started the super big trend.

When I saw the apoc-a-spider's EVEN BIGGER base, I instantly thought of the rumors we heard about a year ago for TK. While they're all probably junk now, I do think we'll be seeing a sphinx on the arachnarok's base. Also, a really fakking huge dragon has to be in the pipes, and/or that mountain chimera.

1.) GW likes to give every new army a big stand-out model in plastic, like Spider, Hellpit Abomination and Stegadon. This trend will certainly continue.
2.) There are spells that can summon big monsters like dragons, so another opportunity to field big monsters.
3.) Warhammer Forge will release several big units with rules, also available for friendly games.
4.) Something nice is coming for Fantasy this summer. Not sure what it is but one speculation is big monsters.

They've got new tech which makes it easier to produce larger kits in plastic (started with the baneblade for 40k, then stompa and shadowsword varients, etc before swinging into Fantasy). So, yes, they most likely will be producing more large kits with the joy spread around to all the codices and army books.

I don't know. The tech has been there since...the 80's at least. You could go into any hobby shop and get a model F14 with a pretty crazy amount of detail.

Yet another 0and in my pespective the biggest) reason for BM to get a new book, and fast.
Then again same goes for WE (ugly tree people) and TK (the skellies need some work), and that's just modelling without bringing rules into the mix.

But no models for the Cygor or Ghorgon. The Ghorgon is monstrous by the fluff description, something along the lines of a little smaller than a Stompa.

Ghorgon and Cygor do seem like their gonna be made into Arachnorok scale releases, at least to me, whether by Warhammer Forge or GW, your guess is as good as mine
I mean I'd personally love more huge models in plastic since I don't have £200 to spend on a Marienburg Landship or War Mammoth or anything like that, so if they are doing this I'll be very happy
So everyone seems to agree that more bigger models seem to be GW's basic plan for the future (as close as they get to a plan anyway)

Fantasy is slowly creeping on 40k's scale of kits. I really hope we dont see something the size of a Baneblade, which is more of a showpiece than anything.

What's interesting to me is that GW seemingly shot themselves in the foot with the 8th edition cannon rules about this. If cannons weren't quite as intimidating, I think a lot more people would be including these large beasties in their 8th ed lists. As it is, it seems a lot of stegadons are sitting on the sidelines... while horde formations (whether of infantry or monstrous infantry) are all the rage.
One way to fix this is to just jack up the wounds on the monsters. It looks like the huge spider is going to have 8 wounds! So you know it's going to take at least a few cannon balls to bring it down . That, or ward saves for the big beasties... unfortunately this doesn't do anything to bring back current ones, such as dragons.
Not that I miss that dominance of dragons in 7th, but it'd be nice to see one occassionally in 8th edition!
Edit: Also, I can't wait to hear about what's planned for fantasy for this summer... I would really be up for some apocalypse style rules to include giant monsters. I don't know how they could streamline things to make it feasible from a time perspective, but it'd be awesome to have some fantasy "titans" walking around mauling huge units with every step . "Legendary" creatures, anyone? I think you started this in the proposed rules section, Kirbinator!!

Maybe the summer will allow for ranks of monsters? That'd be pretty scary.

God I hope so, Fantasy Apocolypse would be amazing, especially with more Arachnarok sized plastic models
And MechaEmperor7000, there is the Forge World Stuff, the Chaos Mammoth, Fire Dragon, Chaos Dragon and all the Greater Daemons are pretty much that big already
Ranks of Monsters in Fantasy Apocolypse would be amazing, imagine just three Arachnarok's ranked up side by side

What I want to know with the spider is, can the Goblin forest Lord and Great Shaman take them as selectable mounts?
Because if a Goblin Horde could bring three or more of these things to battle, damn that would be tempting.
In other news, I really hope for more plastic monsters, a plastic Manticore kit with all rider options would be awesome, as would be a Plastic Hydra.

Oh, if only there were a plastic Manticore kit with all rider options. Darn it all
(I have that one on order, as does Kirbinator I believe... technically resin and with only a single rider, but you could probably swap a different torso onto the legs to use it for almost anything)
Ranked up monsters... man, that would be awesome. I am really looking forward to finding out what they have in mind for this summer!
I don't know how many of the giant spiders an O&G army can take, MDS... but I'm sure we'll be hearing about it shortly

Mm... plastic Hydra... One that doesn't look like it has spike shields for heads...
Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!
And while that gorgeous model's rider only comes with the scimitar and open gauntlet as its weapons (represents a DE Master/Dreadlord perfectly), the bits appear to be able to be swapped with the foot-version of Heroic Kahn Urkhan who has a gorgeous spread of bits including three heads, bunch of weapons, and two shoulder sets. I'll find out when mine arrives.
In other news, more monsters in WHFB please! I like the look of large blocks as much as anyone else, but there's nothing like a beautiful centerpiece model for your army (like that Manticore will be for mine).

Ghorgon is my personal prediction for a new model and one of my predictions for Warhammer Forge is a kit to convert a Giant (either plastic or resin) into a Cygor
Other predictions assuming more huge monsters/machines are on the way are as follows:
Jabberslythes
Coatl
Arcanadon
Thunder Lizard
Chaos Dwarf Golem
Dwarf Zeppelin
Warhammer Forge Giant Treeman
Sphinx
Plastic Hydra
Plastic Wyvern
Plastic Treeman

One of the major reasons I hate GW...so much.
Overcost a gakload of our units, and then don't even release new models for the units that almost every Beastmen player (so like...around 1000 in the U.S?) has in his army
