Hey, can anyone tell me an easy way to sculpt a cog out of greenstuff? Aiming for a half inch diameter or so.

Oh, God, I wouldn't even try.

The best you're going to get is out of plasticard or breaking apart toys you bought from the dollar store.

Depends on what your putting it on (surface wise)

On a flat surface it is pretty ease, however, on something curved it will be alot harder.

Simply need 2 hollow round objects (old pen casings) that are about 5mm apart in size.

Flatten out some GS.
Press one into the GS 1st (smaller one) which gives you the center hole.

Press the second around it, giving you a halo shape (using the casings to cut the GS btw)

You can either let it dry, then use a sharp blade around the outside, or find a small object like a cocktail stick (cut the tip so its flat ended) and gently press it in around the outside of it every few mm.

While that wont cut the GS into a cog type pattern, it will thin it out enough that cutting it will be easy and give you a guide.

Hope that helps
Kinda hard to describe it.

If your in no rush, ill make a quick tut once i get my card and reader back since ive made tons for my IH marines.

Agreed, much simpler to disassemble various small "wind up" toys for your "cog" needs.

Ok, maybe I should clarify. I'm not wedded to the idea of using GS specifically. If plasticard is best, I can do that. It's on a flat surface.

Will try using the pen casings.

I'd use plasticard. Much easier to just sketch/print out a cog design, then cut and file to shape.

I think it would be easier to make a cog-shaped impression in a piece of green stuff and then press-mould some cogs from that.
