I voted for 'Buying' in that its the closest to 'collecting'.

Im polygamerous.... meaning I pretty much love every miniature game in existence. I love collecting the rulebooks and figures. I guess that typically translates as 'buying'... but I think Collecting is a better expression of what I do.

I reservedly voted for painting. I did love buying the models, when I had money and found deals on Ebay. Cleaning and assembling the models was really satisfying, as well. I've done a lot more scratchbuilding ( mostly terrain) than converting/kitbashing, but I've enjoyed that, as well.

Since I don't really have an opportunity to game, painting is the latest step in the standard "hobby progression" that I can feasibly reach. I'm sluggish as all hell and it occasionally gets tedious, but the results are the most satisfying of all the steps I can achieve. It may change once I actually start playing regularly or poverty reduces me to gluing together scrap cardboard and dreaming, but, for now, I'd say painting.

Kitbashing for me.

My Necrons donm't let me do this much, but my orks...

I'm a Big Mek, if i had to pick a 40k unit to describe me, and love glomming stuff together that was never designed to function in the manner i'm forcing it to... and nothing (except my wife's very well guarded bitz box) is sacred

It's all about playing the game. Collecting and painting are nice too, but the game comes first.

Last night a friend of mine and I got in a 1500pt game in about an hour and a half, kind of showcasing the game for a new guy who just started coming to the store (and just plays at home with friends) and his wife. Total fun. We just went for it, totally aggressive, playing mostly narrative-style with a bit of tactics in there. I think out of eight vehicles in the game 7 Exploded; we ended the game with my BA buddy tabled except for a Rhino, and me having two oblits, a single havoc with ML, a half dozen CSMs and a single Lesser Daemon.

At the end of the game it came down to his Reclusiarch with one wound left (one of two models he had left) making a last-ditch assault on the Lesser Daemons on an objective, getting close enough to contest, killing 4/5 of them in the first round, then getting counter-charged by the remaining CSMs. The Reclusiarch focused on attacking the CSMs on I5 to reduce incoming attacks, so left my little Daemonette LD alive. Naturally I rolled her first, and separately. 1 hit, 1 wound, and he rolled that 1 on his armor save. Totally epic.

I voted for playing! I don't mind losing, prefer winning! I am surprised painting was not a close 2nd, it wasn't even second so far!

Complaining on forums!

Sometimes I think I like buying stuff more than anything. There's just something about having all those boxes piled up with virgin sprues in them.

Sidstyler, despoiler of virgin sprues..

There's a sig for you.

Actually Teaching Someone is my other big favourite. I suppose that comes under playing.. Mekking still a nose ahead at the finish line, but only a nose. Getting other people into the hobby (even if it does mean they play Power-armoured Fanatic Ken rather than something creepy and alien) is awesome..

Buying and painting....also known as collecting.

I play plenty of games, but it is the compulsive collecting that motivates me.

I absolutely love playing against good opponents, but the painting part is probably my favorite part of the hobby. It's pretty much the most relaxing thing I can think of.

I enjoy everything except the playing.
70% of the players at my local GW are little kids who scream and claim you cheat when you win.

Gonna vote for kitbashing, though I love assembling as-per-instructions models as well, there is just a bit more joy for me in assembling than there is in any of the others, except maybe playing, it's always fun to watch my boyz fluff a run roll at crucial moments...

At the minute, the best part of the hobby for me is being able to say 'Hey I've got a spare hour, lets paint something!' (being the only mode of transport between 4 people and working 2 jobs kind of saps your free time)
