I've noticed that a lot of Dakkites have, in their signature, what armies they play and how many points they've amassed.

I've wondered is that just what you own with no extra wargear included on the model or is that the total number of points if you suited and booted all of your models to the maximum number of pieces of wargear they could possibly take?

For me it's generally the max number of points I could play the army comfortably.

That makes sense. I figured it probably wouldn't be something silly like; how many points you could possibly do.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Mine are the basic costs of the models themselves with any modeled wargear. For example, if I have a havoc with an AC, I use the points for a havoc with the cost of the AC.

If I have a raptor, or chaos lord, I don't include any optional wargear unless it is modeled on the model (such as terminator armour on the lord, or a melta for the raptor).

This also makes pretty good sense! I'll have to count out exactly how many points I have. I know it's over 3000 but I'll just list 3000 for now.

It seems like this is probably going to be the general consensus on how it's done. Thank you for the feedback, guys!

Same. Also, I haven't listed anything unpainted.

For me, it's the largest list I can comfortably play/I have a list written for with the models I have/under immediate construction.

e.g. My current signature lists me as having 6000 points, and those points include my new Warhound Titan which is honestly still closer to unfinished than finished.

Pretty much this. The points level I can comfortably play at, but in my particular case of Ultramarines, that is with EVERYTHING I own on the field, including 30 terminators and 3 land raiders....

For my calculation:

1) Painted models are included, even if they're poorly painted and in my "to be redone" list. Unpainted models are not.

2) Wargear upgrades are what is visible on the model.

3) In the case of upgrades not needed to be displayed, e.g. Exarch Powers, I just included what I view as good (sometimes a bit more upgrade than I field, but upgrades I would take given the points)

4) Ignore FOC. (I have ~12 HQ choices, 7 HS, 3 FA, 4 Elite, ~9 Troop).

5) If I've installed magnets to allow a swap of weapons, assume the weapon I take most often.

Models as assembled. I could add in another 1500 points tossing some upgrades on there if I really wanted too.

I count everything I am using in games currently, at the points they're worth as equipped.

I suspect that for a lot of people it's pretty much just a reflex count because you know your favorite army list and you know all of the awesome stuff you had to leave out of it. Boom, points sig.

Mine are all WYSIWYG so I only ever quote the values of the actual wargear that they have. (not that I'd put them in my signature.)

I just add the points together via WYSIWYG. I'm going to put down 125 for a Space Marine captain with a powerfist, even though I could run him as a chapter master with artificer armor, hellfire rounds, and an auxiliary grenade launcher if I felt like it.

Yikes. I've collected four armies, for like 16 years. I don't even know how many points I have! Certainly more than I can comfortably play (and I sometimes wonder what else that money could have gotten me)

If I did, I would put down what point level my army is most cohesive at. For example, I own 3000pts of Guard, but it works out to be a 1500pt foot guard list and a 1500pt mech vet list. I would probably also only include painted models too.

Mine is how many points I usually play with the army, usually the list I am using. ( I don't have too many miniatures, so the total is not to far off)

I quote the largest effective army that I can field within normal FOC requirements. Ex. my Eldar don't count my two Phoenix Lords or Swooping Hawks, and my Dark Angels don't count my Tactical Squads, Power Armored Captain, or proxy predator and rhino. My Win-Loss-Draw is for all games (friendly or otherwise) over my entire gaming career (so yes, I'm still a bit of a newb...)

Black Widow Assault Cadre 2000 Points (Under Renovation- Playable) Win-4 Lose-5 Draw-1
Storm Angels 1st Company 2500 Points (DA Codex) (Under Renovation - Playable) Win-3 Lose-4 Draw-3
Corsairs of Fate 1750 Points (Under Construction - Playable) Win-2 Lose-3 Draw-1
Protectorate of Menoth 11 Points (Project Delayed Indefinitely) Win-1 Lose-3 Draw-0
Imperial Guard Regiment (Unnamed) 1000 Points (Project Delayed Indefinitely)
Cygnar 25 Points (Planned) Win-0 Lose-0 Draw-0

Last Game(s): The Spearhead Annihilation Battle between my Storm Angels First Company (Dark Angels) and Skystompa's Waagghh! (Blood Angels) resulted in a MAJOR VICTORY!

God...if I went based purely on the models I have...there would be crying. I probably have about 4000 to 5000 points of daemons, around the same for marines, probably 3000 of Eldar and around 3000 of Warriors of Chaos. That's after selling 4000 points of WoC, rebuying a new army, and selling a 5000 point O&G army and a 6000pt Empire army. Crap, I've spent a lot...In fact, I feel a bit like crying now...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
