Hey guys! When I say tournament, I mean my brother, and 4 mates but hey!

Basically, we're all fed up of the competitiveness that's come between us as wargamers, so we're taking it back to basics! Few beers, lots of laughs! The rules are you've got to submit a page of really nice fluff (which will be ranked by eachother, and goes towards final points at the end), absolutely no spamming, basically a real friendly game. My fluff is a mountain patrol (anyone who wants my 'page' of fluff just PM me!). Obviously not bothered about being too competitive, but any howlers I've dropped let me know!

Osric Splinterfang (counts as Canis Wolfborn) 185pts
Krom Bloodhelm (TW mount, runic armour, thunderhammer, storm shield, Saga of the Warrior Born, wolftooth necklace) 265pts
Winters Shadow (5 Wolf Scouts, Melta Gun, Melta Bombs) 110pts
The Wolfkin (10 Grey Hunters, 2 MeltaGuns, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen) 180pts
The Icebound (10 Grey Hunters, 2 MeltaGuns, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen) 180pts
The Twice Blooded (5 Grey Hunters, flamer) 75pts
The Thunder of Maelstrom (4 ThunderWolves, TH, SS, Melta Bombs) 265pts
15 Fenrisian Wolves 120pts
15 Fenrisian Wolves 120pts

Total 1500pts

Thats a nice looking army list. Can immagine it working fairly well, despite it lacking the 'cheesy' elements of a Space Wolves army. Hope you have fun using it.

Yeah, rune priest spam and long fangs with ML were actually turning my friends against me! I swore never to use them again...

The anti-tank comes from meltas and S10 thunderhammers (LOVE autopenning rear armour 10). Fenrisian wolves shield the hunters/cavalry. One independant character joins each unit of wolves, and splits off when they're in charge range. Plus the wolves are actually really potent in combat with I5, and leadership 8 re-roll! Hunters chill midfield on objectives, and small squad guards my home objective!

It makes sense as a mountain patrol, but it lacks mobility to assault enemy objectives, and ranged firepower to stop incoming enemy troops/transports. Those Ferisian Wolves cannot hold objectives, but I suppose they could contest.....the issue is they are very easily killed and their morale is terrible even with Canis.

Personally I think you should have at least one or two mounted units for mobility's sake, and something to give you some ranged firepower. There is no reason a friendly list cannot also be balanced and well equipped, and still work with any fluff you are developing.

I'm at work right now, and I have a few things to do before I have some free time, but I'll work on a balanced list and develop some fluff as an example of what I would do. And I would definitely like to read the fluff you have developed for this list. Please PM it to me!

Their moral with Canis, is the same as Grey Hunters....

Which is not that great. Space Wolves have lower Leadership than many other Space Marine chapters, who have a 9 pretty much across the board (because their squads include veteran sergeants in the cost), and in order to get that leadership we have to take Wolf Guard and/or independent characters to lead out packs. Fenrisian Wolves do not have ATSKNF, so if they break and are below half strength they will run off the board.

Edit - Here's an example of how I would build a list like this:

Bjorn the Fel Handed (Plasma) - 270
Rune Priest Mikjall (Chooser of the Slain, Wolf Tail Talisman, Living Lightning, Stormcaller) - 115
Pack Redfang[3 Wolf Guard] - 129
-Mikal Sternmark w/ Redfang (Frost Blade) and Combi-Plasma
-Sveinn w/ Power Fist and Combi-Melta
-Torval w/ Power Fist and Combi-Melta
Dreadnought Grimnir (TL Lascannon, Heavy Flamer) - 145
Pack Ironhand[10 Grey Hunters](2x Plasma Gun, Wolf Standard) - 170
Pack Grimtooth[9 Grey Hunters](Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 185
Pack Icewind[9 Grey Hunters](Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 185
Pack Hailstorm[6 Long Fangs](5 Missile Launchers, Razorback w/ TL Lascannon) - 215
Predator Destructor "Krakenmaw" (Autocannon, Sponsion Heavy Bolters) - 85
Total 1,499

The list is designed as a defensive force, to hold a location against an assaulting opponent. It has a solid core of ranged firepower with a pair of mobile packs for taking enemy objectives, and strong leadership which Space Wolves respect. It's also less "spammy" than normal, with only a single pack of Long Fangs and a single Predator, along with Bjorn and another Dreadnought for fire support and counter-assault.

I wrote some fluff for it as well if anyone would care to see it. I did it more as a creative exercise because I liked the idea the OP had more than anything, but I'm actually kinda happy how it turned out. I don't want to hijack the thread though, so I'll only post it if the OP asks.

Don't forget that a thunderwolf within 12" allows a re-roll on ANY leadership based test! A lot of people forget that rule. Ld 8 with a re-roll really is quite hardy!

The mountains surrounding the Fang are one of the most inhospitable environments imaginable. Any vehicles at all would find it simply impossible to navigate to ravines and canyons, most of which are filled with snow reaching even a thunderwolves shoulder! Heavy weapons are out of the question, long fangs simply don't fit the fluff!

And Aldarionn please PM me your fluff, I'd be very interested to hear an explaination for predator tanks navigating the Fang's snowy peaks!

The fluff I developed is for an offworld campaign. The Space Wolves don't usually fight on Fenris unless something threatens the plant directly, which is very rare. They most often fight on many of the protectorate worlds surrounding Fenris and serve as manufactorums and agricultural suppliers, sometimes under contract of their House Bellisarius allies. Additionally, they undertake many campaigns around the galaxy, including missions into the Eye of Terror, and at any time a Great Company could be dispatched by Logan Grimnar to deal with any given situation that might threaten Fenris, one of their allies, or perhaps neighboring Imperial worlds.
