Sorry if this seems like an easy question. I just started piecing together my army list and havent played a game yet.
When I equip my tyrant with a Thundermace for 55 points, counts as a great weapon, do I have to spend the additional 14 points to equip him with a great weapon?
Thanks!

The weapon itself is a Great Weapon, you do not need to equip him with another one.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do. |

Yeah, its a Magical Great Weapon. buying any other weapon would be pointless as he has to use a Magic weapon when he chooses a weapon to fight with(you could give him a Brace of Guns to give him a shooting attack)

Thunder Mace is a pretty bad choice in 8th. The splash hits are only S3 and don't ignore armor.

If you wanted some security measures, you could by him a second mundane great weapon, in case his magical one breaks...

If the Thundermace is broken by something it will turn into a mundane great weapon.
I don'y know of any spell that destroys the item completely.
and the Thundermace isn't Str3. it's Str4(8) as described in the Ogre book(IIRC)

That's how a "destroyed" item works? Huh. Where is that? I've just never seen it before.
When I read about the Brettonain's morning star or the Dwarf's Master Rune saying "the weapon is instantly destroyed", I kinda' figured it would...you know. Break it. Not just scrub the magic off.

I have never heard of items that obliterate the weapon itself. just turn it into a mundane weapon of the same type.

I've seen a mix of both - some destroy the magical weapon entirely, some revert it to a mundane version. I think Obsidian armour (daemons) does the altter.

But...that's only when you swing at the Khornate daemon, right? Attack, magic suppressed. Run away screaming like a little girl, magic back to normal. Right?
Dwarf's Rune of Breaking "...magic weapon is destroyed immediately"
Brettonain's Morning Star of Fracasse "on a 4+, if the opponent had a magic weapon, it is destroyed"
So, these do in fact mean "destroyed" when they say "destroyed", then. There's not some little tidbit I missed that says a magic weapon becomes a regular weapon of its type. Correct?

"If the Thundermace is broken by something it will turn into a mundane great weapon. "
I seem to remember a rule along these lines from a previous edition. I never played much fantasy previous to 8th, so grain of NaCl and all that.
