Hey guys I have an upcoming game against mech BA and am pondering the viability of the following beastmasters unit...

5 Beastmasters
10 Khymera
6 Razorwing flocks

The unit's got 45 wounds, puts out 35 S4 and 36 Rending attacks on the charge. Massive footprint for tarpitting multiple units. Can even shred vehicles with some decent rolling!

However at 280pts, it certainly aint cheap! Oh by the way, the battle is 1500pts!

Thoughts on this please?

Hive Fleet Medusa. Working up to 2000pts.

3: 1 :4

Against a mixture of wolves, angels, guard, orks and eldar.

I have runn a unit like that. They did very very very well, however I would advice you to runn 2 smaler with 5 khymera and 4 razorwingflock in each. Preferably out of a WWP.

No, it's 35 S4 attacks.

30 from the Kymera
5 from the Beastmasters

Beastmasters are s3 not4. I assumed you meant on the charge from just the khymera

If it got in a fight with a Blood Talon equipped furioso, I think that unit could be in for some bad times. Only one way to find out, though, yes?

Which is why you dedicate the rest of the arny to a mix of haywires and dark lances.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Definitely would NOT recommend trying haywire grenades against furiosos - lances and blasters are plentiful enough and cheap enough to take care of any assortment of dreadnoughts.

OP: Beasts are fantastic; not only as a tarpit unit because their volume of attacks genuinely has the ability to wtfpwn things. Not consistently, but its there. I feel like beasts are a fill in unit though. If you know that your opponent is mechanized BA, then beasts aren't the best fit, and at 1500 points against that specific opponent....there are better ways to spend your points.

My advice as points permit:

HQ: Baron (just for the +1 to go first) - he stacks in with beasts wonderfully to give them +1 cover and assault/defensive grenades. You're going to have to be careful with your assaults, because he assaults the highest of 3d6, and they assault 2d6x2 - meaning that you won't get to assault more than 6" if he's attached.

Troop1 and 2: Either 5x Warriors with a single blaster in a dual splinter cannon venom, or 9 wyches with haywire grenades in a raider with haemonculi.

From there:

Add 3 ravagers with dark lances for heavy support.
Add 3 trueborn units with 3-4 blasters each in dual splinter cannon venoms for elites.

There's your core anti-tank. From there, flesh out your troop choices with warriors or wyches - I don't think you'll make it to six troop choices before you run out of points.

I have found that a BA dread assaulting beast masters is bad news for dark eldar. It's great to have dark lights as a counter but it's not something that will always stop the dread from assaulting.
