Hey everyone, this is my debut on dakka after lurking around for a while, Ive been starting to build up an orcs and goblins army for a little while now, none of which are painted yet because I couldnt come up with a theme for my army until recently, the other night I was looking at my new orc warboss on boar and I thought he needed a little more character, so just going with a shot on the dark I tried my hand at sculpting a voodoo mask, and to my amazement I actually ended up with something which to me looked like a job well done, but go ahead and take a look for yourself



Personally, Im in love with tikis, voodoo magic, shamans and witch doctors, so this model has inspired me to make those things the overall theme of my horde.

Last night I was pondering what else I could do to add this theme to more of my army, then I took a look at my BSB and figured that would be a good second choice to convert. so what I did was sculpt some feathers out of green stuff and made it look like a mane somewhat, check it out.



comments and criticism would be greatly appreciated

this is a first fantasy army for me that I would like to be serious about, and right now it is a pretty small army which I hope to expand right now my list consists of

57 orc boys
32 orc arrer boys (already painted.....not very well I may add, thanks ebay )
40 spear N goblins
20 arrow N goblins
3 river trolls (the new ones)
1 orc warboss on boar
1 orc warboss on foot (bsb)
1 gamesday orc warboss
1 night goblin warboss
2 night goblin shamans
1 doom diver
1 chariot
10 spider riders

Im looking forward to adding the arachnarok spider to my list along with the new savage orc boys which will greatly add to the theme Im trying to convey.

I'm going to need some suggestions if possible when choosing new units for expanding my army, but my biggest thing Im going to need help with is coming up with ways to add this theme to the rest of my army, any help would be [/b]Greatly[b] appreciated

Awesome idea for a theme. Well apart from the new models which are coming out, have you looked on ebay for the old forest goblins and characters like Wurrzag? I was helping my local GW store build their savage orcs from the black box and they look really cool I think they will go well with your theme, the boar boyz too.

Have you thought of using Lizardmen bitz to add to the wild jungle look?

hey kill nice to meet ya! and yea when I saw that new wurzagg model my Jaw dropped that is such an awesome model, he is definitely going to be one of the main points of my army, idk if I'll use him with his character profile, but I will most definitely be using him as my armies orc shaman all the time. and yea excellent idea with the lizardmen I completely forgot about how tribal they are. thanks again

I actually just finished priming up my doom diver model which I had sculpted another tiki mask and just hung it on one of the posts so I'll be sure to post pictures up of that and my two warbosses tonight

Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with. Those first two are well sculpted!

Have you thought about what background the army is going to have? What about stone trolls like the Easter island heads?

hey mohaniker! thanks for the compliment, I was surprised they came out that well considering its one of the first times Ive actually used green stuff to sculpt something. the easter island heads sound like an great idea, but my only concern is how I could get that look and still make the model look good hmmmm.




(a quick extra) I was looking at the GW website and I saw this



and I was thinking it would make a pretty badass big boss if I gave him a feather mane and put some feathers on top of his shield because it already looks like a tiki mask so it would fit my theme perfectly.

@jon I think so too, im having a bit of a problem with my orc boys? how exactly can I make them moar tiki? suggestions anyones? or should I leave them as is?

My first thought was that the Tiki/ voodoo theme would work very well with some Savage Orcs. Have you seen some of the new Orc stuff GW has on advance order (particularly the Savage Orc Shaman?. Seems right up your alley.)? If you're running regular Orc Boyz and such already, maybe try part-swapping with some Savages. Oh, your GS work looks great man. Love the feather work. Maybe some feathers on armbands? Anyway, keep it up man!

hey you made it wolfpack! im gonna save my orc shaman position for wurzagg because that model is simply beast! and actually feathers on the armbands sound like a good idea and maybe I can give my unit champions a feather mane too.

Alright guys so I decided what I'll do with tiki's lads! Im going to keep things simple and only decorate the command models with feathers in the units although when it comes to painting the other boys will get some love with a little body paint


I did some green stuff work on the command models of the first unit

Shrunken heads, skeleton face paint, more feathers?

skeleton facepaint!!!! genius idea!!! I was thinking about something funny I can do to decorate wurzaggs base when I get him, I can sculpt little frog bodies and put orc heads on them, so it looks like thats there punishment for crossing an orc shaman as crazy as wurzagg

Alright guys for tonight I was experimenting with orc skin colors and I finally found one that I liked, I myself prefer lighter colored orcs and vibrant colors in my paint schemes

my camera is a bit lame since its a phone camera so the skin is a little lighter than it is shown in the picture




My goal for tonight is completely finish one orc boy model static grass and all, because then it shall become the model figure for the rest of my orcs which I will be batch painting.

Stuff looks great so far and I'm interested in seeing the finished army. I couldn't find any pics quickly, but you should try and find some of the old Forest Goblin shamans and lords for some inspiration. Perhaps make the weapons look even more primitive than the standard choppa or add some linked bones as makeshift armor, etc.

I'll try and take some pictures of the FG I have lying around to post up for you to see.

SOunds like the force is starting to come together better. I like the skeleton facepaint idea that would look really cool on some savage orks.

You could use this guys shield as masks for trolls or a giant depending on how big it is.

Hey guys sorry Ive been kinda lagging with the updates but Ive been busy working these past couple days. but dont fret I'm not leaving you guys with an empty update heres a picture of my doom diver didnt do too much in terms of converting but I put a little tiki mask on one of the posts.



my plan for the next coming week is to get a good amount of my first orc boy unit painted, now that I have my reference orc.


@killmaimburn that is actually an awesome idea and in just in time too because I was having a hard time deciding what I could do for my river trolls, hmm I guess I should start checking some bit sites for those shields

I really like what you're doing here. Makes me think of the Ork savages but only better. Much better. You've definitely got some GS skill as well.

Great idea for a theme. Some really nice green stuff work. How about some Goblin Shamans made of 2 Goblins standing on each others shoulders like those crazy dervish thingies from Diablo 2 with the irritating noise?

I'm all for tiki orks, but I think you def need at least one shaman in a grass skirt.
