Subject: Pirates in Eastern Fringe
|
 |
Mindless Servitor
|
Once upon a time ...
Pirates can operate almost everywhere. The galaxy is wast, so why not to set up a band of VERY VERY bad boys somewhere far far away.
Captain Slate is a rouge psyker (inspired by the FW model of the RENEGADE ROGUE PSYKERS (product code : IA-CTR-I-005)) in flight from the Inquisition. He stumbled upon a spacehulk drifting in the warp. Well, not really a coincidence if you are a rouge psyker. He joined the chaos worshipping beast inhabiting the hulk and rise to power swiftly. He traded the ship, he was help upon to the leader of the pack and they anchored the hulk in the orbit of a jade moon, somewhere in the eastern fringe.
Making landfall they set up a base of operations on the surface. It won't take long to meet the natives. They found some savage orks, living mostly in mountain caves, but they number was far less, than can be expected in an untamed, uninhabitedl world. The number of the orks was kept at bay by a small contingent of imperial guards, who used the jungle moon as a practice area and maintained a samll outpost on the surface.
The pirates tried to negotiate with the orks after discovering the outpost, but with little success. Slate then incited the savages to an all out assault and the warband joined the battle to wipe out the guardsmen. They moved to the abandoned guards outpost and estabilished a fortified settlement. The warband keept the orks in the caves and occasionally raided merchant shipping passing by the system. This shipping was mostly tau merchants travelling in the eastern fringe.
On one occassion the pirates encountered a merchant escorted by kroot mercenaries. The mercenaries were captured and later joined the pirates. Captain Slater's force grew steadily.
Here are some images of the warband memebers. The Captain will be the mentioned FW model. I think I will incorporate some kroots too. Maybe some cross-breeds too. The pirates don't have a stable industrial backround, so they equipment (looted imperial, tau and some ork) is maintained by intuition mostly. They they have one piranha (for the Captain) and a few imperial guard sentinels.
The future development of the force will reflecting the suggestions too, if there are any.

Thanks. I still awaiting some eBay stuff to arrive. When I got them, there will be more pics.
And the story sounds convincing enough? I have to iron that out too.

sounds cool - I like the idea of a pirate band operating on the fringes and I like to imagine my Rogue trader mercenaries and space pirates being in a similar situation. Looking forward to pics

Sounds promising so far, rag-tag assortment of ne'er-do-wells is always interesting. Plus your first pic reminds me of my slaaneshi beast-men Lost & Damned., so I'll be keeping an eye on what happens over on the eastern fringe

It will be a really mixed band of outlaws. Some of my biddings on Ebay went well, so I just have to wait the stuff to arrive. Until then I can enterntain you with more background story. Because the story is an important bit of the army/warband creation for me.
Captain Slate's pirates have a really big headache if it comes to fix and maintain the looted imperial guard and tau equipment if it's more complicated than a rifle or handgun. But a recent development made a promising change in the situation. One of the scouting parties found a wrecked, rusty vehicle, inhabited by an ork, who claimed to be a skilled mechanic. He just need the right things and stuff to fix 'The Waggon'. The captain allowed 'DocWaggon' to scavange the leftovers of the guard outpost and in return he is expexting a working transport. Can you imagine how much patience an agitated rouge psyker has? Well, I hope 'DocWaggon' will deliver.
Photos of the mentioned transport coming soon. It's VERY WIP.
'DocWaggon' is in transit too. (From France, by the way. Can anybody tell the difference between a snail or a squig, if they are prepared in a proper way? ) Automatically Appended Next Post: And here it is 'The Waggon'. I told it's WIP.

Slow progress is still some progress, right? My delivery from France is delayed... I'm not surprised at all. Meantime I started to work on ' The Waggon' and made some more pirates.
and here is it from the other side
The body on the front is a compromise made between Captain Slate and DocWaggon.
DocWaggon was begging for a red paint job to make 'The Waggon' faster. The Captain finally agreed to this superstition and a very special red paint job was made. ( WIP!)

Some improvements. I finished all the beasts and made two kroots. Did some work on 'The Waggon' too. DocWaggon finally arrived and I installed him to the driver seat immediately.
Next step will be the beast painting and assembling the piranha.
(I have to save some money for the Captain figure - FW)
And the pics:

DocWaggon
The signum group
The BBQ Beast
And the radio operator ... I like this one. I think this beast is the nicest one so far. (I hope I won't kill the model with the paintjob.)
Comments welcome ... you know, just to keep me going
Thanks for wieving.

Thanks for comments!
'The Waggon' is from the Tamiya M3 Halftrack 1/35 kit. I bought it ages ago (in 1992-93 maybe) and left it in the box. At that time I was busy at the university. But I kept the box and here we go ... I have a Flak cannon to somewhere around too, but it`s not very well suited for warhammer40k conversion. One day I may try the Tamiya Char Bis1 1/35 french tank for a renegade vehicle (upgraded with some leman russ bits)
The paint job will be a bit difficult, but I will upload some pictures about the camouflage patterns soon. Any comments on that are welcome too.
