Are people using these more than the screaming bell?

I am not sure I understand why you want to be in close combat with this thing when it injures your own troops with the Enshrouded by Fog rule. Basically you are killing your own skaven in the unit that pushes the furnace?

I do believe this should be in the Tactics section.

Why people use it?
It's a big beatstick. Plague Monks are rather decent to begin with. They simply throw out a good chunk of attacks for a decent price. The one thing that they have a problem with is high armour saves.
A furnace come in as a great thing here. Both the fog (hits both, while you only fail on 6's) and the "furnace drop" do a number on most things. Add in impact hits and unbreakable for lolz and you have a pretty decent unit.

They're a great beatstick, and with a plague censer priest you have 2 tests for everyting in contact - lots of dead enemies.

Ah sorry. Let me rephrase then. I do in fact end up almost killing some units that are pushing the furnace? I was wondering actually how that rule worked etc etc before I build mine since reading through the army book I am a little confused on that.

Yes, you might end up killing some of the models in the unit pushing the furnace. That is a core part of the fog rule and a possible effect from a misfire.

(EDIT) And it's worth it.

Here's why to take one.
Mine charged into 20 spear elves, with a mage.

I challenges, the mage refused.
Impact hits, gas, censor, and magic banner kill elves.
Surviving elves swing, killing some monks.
Priest swings, furnace makes it's 7 attacks, and monks attack.
The monks kill the last of the 20 spear elves, so when I swing the wrecker at ASL, I do 8 S5 hits on the unit, with only the cowering mage left; who is wrecked.
I did 26 wounds to a unit that only had 22; in a single round of combat!

The Furnace is a beat stick in an army full of S3 guys. I'd rather take on a bloodthirster than go toe to toe with my infantry against a furnace.

You shouldnt be "almost killing" the units that push it, unless you're only taking 20 rats and /or roll an obscene number of 6s on the toughness tests; remember YOU only fail on a 6, THEY take the test as normal!

I'd like to point out, though, that a Plague Priest with a Censer forces every model his Furnace is in base-to-base with to save or die. It hits an extra two enemies than if he were on foot, but it hits an extra 8 of your guys, so beware.
