Subject: Need some help against Dark Eldar

Horrific Howling Banshee

So I've got 2 friends who play Dark Eldar, and they both do it really quite well: of the 20 games or so I've played against them, i've played against them, I've only won 3, and thats because they were only getting used to the new codex in the first week. I played Eldar in the games aforementioned. So lets assume the majority of these games were at 1000 points. The one of these Dark Eldar culprits plays a webway list with a fondness for Talos/Cronos engines, wyches, incubi and Ravagers. The other usually plays a list very similar but more true born kabalites and other kabalite warriors. Duke Sliscus, also, is really getting on my nerves. The problem I'm having is the ravagers always decimate my tanks, my infantry range isn't long-range enough and powerful enough to get rid of wyches since they're always jumping in and out of raiders. Not even going to bother with the Talos' since they're monstrous creatureness just makes them intensely hard to kill. So yeah, some help on how to own these badboys would be massively appreciated. Automatically Appended Next Post: Maybe this should be in tactics? Could someone move it please?

i don't know much of dark eldar but they seem to have some though melee units like encubi.. put something in your army to counter them.. or good cc units or strong firepower.. you have to shoot him to pieces before he gets in cc reach.. so 1 transport 2 heavy cc units hope it helped

Eldar actually have a number of advantages over their evil cousins. Most of their tanks are AV 12, meaning Darklances are basically just Missile Launchers and wasted points against Eldar, and Raiders and Ravagers are so low on armor value that most of their basic cheap weapons will shred them. If you play a mech style, take Shuriken Cannons and Scatter Lasers on your tanks and don't bother with Brightlances. Fire Dragons are great for dealing with Talos and Chronos engines, and Dire Avengers mounted in Serpents will deal quite well with most of their infantry at range.
If your opponent is fielding a webway list, start in reserve and fly onto the board in an advantageous position once you know where his webway units are positioned. If he is playing a mech list, concentrate on taking out his vehicles, which shouldn't be terribly difficult if you have a decent number of S6 weapons. Once his tanks are down and his units are walking, unload your troops and start shooting. Ranged combat is really the weakness of the Dark Eldar, so if you can catch them in a crossfire you can really put a pounding to them.
If you are fielding a mixed list you will have a harder time of things since they will have a mobility advantage, but with the right troops and a few well equipped Wave Serpents you can still do some serious damage. Fire Dragons are always a good buy, as are Storm Guardians and Dire Avengers. Fire Prisms can also help clear out higher toughness creatures and even the weakest shot they have will ignore most Dark Eldar armor. Normally I would recommend taking Striking Scorpions as a counter-assault unit in a mixed list, but in this case it would be better to field Harlequins since they have higher initiative, ranged protection, an invulnerable save, and Furious Charge. They won't win against Wytches unless they charge, and even then it's not terribly likely, but against most anything else they will do better than Scorpions. If you get the drop on Incubi they might even stand a chance of wiping them out if they have enough Kisses in the unit.
If you know you will be facing at least one Dark Eldar opponent it's worth keeping that in mind when you build your list, so consider the above to give yourself as much of an advantage as possible. I've never had trouble with them when playing my Space Wolves, and I don't think my Eldar would do any worse but I haven't had a chance to test them in practice, only in theory.
Good luck!

Well actually harlequins can be very nasty on the charge, a squad of 6 killed 2 10 man wych squads each in a single turn, you just need to remember to keep them in cover at all times.
I played a game against some daemons with one of my webway lists, it basically became useless, and kinda made it bad for me as i got all my things out in first turn which i didnt want.
So keeping stuff in reserves can work fairly good against a webway list
If they are fielding sliscus with some trueborn you probably want to get into combat with some scorpians or banshees or whatever cc unit you get as he is gonna do much more damage shooting you then in cc, same goes with any DE warriors, as far as wyches go your best of staying as far away as possible, same with talos/chronos
i used a chronos to kill a nurgle daemon prince in two turns then in the next turn i took out epidemus and about 8 plaguebearers down when he had his 20 man tally i believe, and my talos was still alive, so you definitely dont wanna engage that in combat except maybe with a wraithlord or 3
Basically MOST(not all) dark eldar units are good at one thing and one thing only, so if something is good at shooting, chances are it sucks at cc, and vice versa, although somethings have the option to remedy that weakest at a cost
