It seems in the new edition ork shootas are awesome and destroy any reason for sluggas IMO. Why? You miss out on +1 attack for 18" assault 2 s4 shots. Yes ork shooting sucks at bs2 but when each mob has 60 shots and can assault with 3 attacks apiece on the charge is there still reason to take those oop choppas? I say no, as the choppa is now a ccw and not a add -1 to your opponents armor save. Add to this that the shoota is now an assault weapon and not a rapid fire means youll be wiping out pretty much anything t4 or less for 180 points+ nobs.
Anything that survives and doesnt run away on lets say suffers about 6 wounds in close combat (considering casualties of the ork mob 11 orks still get 30 attacks before the KLaw). The only downside to the shoota horde? Psykers, templates, dreadnoughts. Psykers have the morale tests your orks take as if they suffered 25% casualties, however because of mob rule Im unsure if that even works.
Usually flamers assault you, so you overrun them hopefully, for ordanance just space out the boyz. Since ordnance come from tanks take 3 rokkits per squad. The tankbustas hiding in a mob of 26 boyz and a nob (the 3 rokkits). This squad is the same cost as a landraider. Now imagaine 120 boyz like this in addition to deffkoptas lootas and 2 big mek shokk attack gunz and nob bikers. If taken in the right combination and making the right rolls you may wipe your opponent out before turn 4( if you can fit over 120 models in your deployment zone that is). In a 1500 point game if you shoota boyz spam you can get 5 squads this way and still have enough points for ghazgull or 2 meks with shokk and kff, etc.

I know that this is proven to work - It's called Ork Gunline, normally supported by lots of lootas, because you don't want to waste a turn with the ork mob busting transports rather thatn killing the juicy stuff. Your right, morale is not a problem - the boyz are fearless until they're under 11 strong, and then, that's what boss poles are for. If your opponent flames you, you can just charge them and smack the snot out of them in CC, not much can take 29 boyz plus PK nob.

For you maybe, but I still prefer shoota trukk boyz, as they tend to have a longer reach when the trukk is gone. Imagine 20 shootas in a 4 big shoota wagon thats just orkesome!

I like taking a battlewagon with 19 shoota boyz and a Nob with a Big Shoota. It really throws people off when you dump 40+ dice on the table from shooting.

Thats your option...to each his own!

I run shootas in one of my BWs every game! But Ill take issue w your 4 Big shootas on the wagon...you fire all those big shootas then your wagon isnt moving which usually isnt optimal in my experience!

I do this all the time and yeah its awesome...no one ever messes with it either as my nob wagon and burna wagon are much more threatening targets!

True...I havent had the points for kannons my past few games but yes if you can throw a kannon on there then youre really stylin!

To answer your question:

Slugga/choppa boyz are superior to shoota boyz in certain conditions, just like shoota boyz are superior to slugga choppa boyz in certain conditions. Shoota boys have the ability to shoot themselves out of an assault opportunity - there will almost *never* be an instance against a decent opponent where your move stops you 1-2" away from an enemy unit so that you can unload firepower into them. Rather, your move is going to bring you to the 5-6" mark at best...and if you shoot them, they can remove casualties from the front so that you don't get the assault.

After all, everyone knows that it is better to assault orks than to be assaulted by them. As a hybrid mechanzied ork player, there are plenty of times that I move up, drop my boyz off, and need to run (and Waaaugh!) to get into assault range. Moving a battlewagon 6" forward to shoot the boyz inside, or dropping them off to shoot and not assault isn't attractive - I want them in combat.

In a kan-wall, shoota boyz are definitely the way to go. They're behind the kans, and at least have some bullets to throw at things that they can't get to. In a mechanized list, slugga boyz are simply superior. If you could move 12" and still fire the passengers, I'd reconsider - but having an open-topped bunker to protect shoota boyz that probably wouldn't get shot at until more threatening things are dead isn't the best way to spend points - those battlewagons are better spent delivering boyz to the fight.
