Hey guys was just throwing around a few names for my Blood Angels chapter this is what i've come up with so far for a chapter name and motto, what do you guys think?

Liberi Sanguineus translation: Sons of Blood

non est ad astra mollis e terris via translation: The road from earth to the stars is not easy.

The motto is to represent the struggle of the adeptus astartes to maintain the imperiums hold on the universe.

Will need to come up with a bit of a history of the chapter over the next few weeks.

Sons of Blood sounds good.
I like the chapter motto.
Hope to see some more stuff soon.

Tip for a good homebrew chapter fluff: Make them largely unimportant on a global scale, and flawed in some way. No one likes a Mary Sue perfect chapter that are secretly made directly from the Emperor's DNA. They need some interest, but make it local to the chapter. Some motivation for their actions, a goal they seek.

As for my own BA successor, they're the "Ninth Legion" (Blood Angels were the 9th Space Marine Legion to be created), logo is a Roman Numeral 9 (i.e. 'IX') and they're painted brown and red:



Fluff summary: They view the Red Thirst as a terrible curse, and do everything in their power to suppress it, relying on meditation, methodical, calculated and typically ranged battle strategy, and powerful sedative drugs. Those who fall to the Black Rage are placed in stasis, and promised to be released once a cure is found.

Secretly, stasis is rare and space is limited. The stasis vaults were filled generations ago. Only the greatest heroes of the chapter are offered true stasis space. The chapter made a deal with the Ordo Sepulturum of the Inquisition to research a cure for the Red Thirst, to be used forcefully on other Blood Angels successors if necessary. All brothers who fall are turned over to be experiment subjects. The sedative drugs are products of the research, but progress is slow. The chapter spends most of its time recovering artifacts and STC data that may help, but only the highest ranking members of the Chapter, including the Techmarines and the Apothecaries know of the deal with the Inquisiton, and the true fate of the fallen brothers.

Rough outline of their story.

The sons of blood started out as a BA force sent to remove the taint of chaos from a planet in a sector close to baal in the hopes that the blood angels could find another world to recruit from.

While the company was successful they were left at one quarter strength and had to bombard the planet from space as the taint ran deeper than was first thought, on return to Baal and due to the length of time spent on the chaos infested planet the remaining members of the company were all investigated throughly by the inquisition and while found to be clean of warp taint they were not fully accepted back in the chapter.

Thus the Sons of Blood were born the remains of the company were given a battle barge by Dante and given leave to go recruit to replace losses and permission to form their own chapter from what they could recruit. The new chapter master had a less than strict view on the black rage due to the low number of brothers in the chapter all his marines are kept as active members untill the black rage finally takes them and even then they are not as other members of the death company sent in to a battle to find glorious death but instead used as shock troops and then recovered and put into stasis untill the need for their ferocity and battle prowess is needed once again.
The Sons of Blood also embrace the red thirst more than try to fight it, some see this as a taint from their time spent fighting chaos, they however see it as a blessing from the great angel himself and as such have learned to control it to a point where no marine ever falls fully to it but is instead able to call on the strength and power given by it when in great need, this has led them to be closely watched by the ordo hereticus and even now there are whispers that they may be branded traitor and heretics.

Obviously i'll flesh out details such as planet names and such but that's a start maybe i'll add more as the inspiration takes me.

Not to put a downer on it or anything but chapters aren't really created like that...
You could say that the remainder of the company were sent to train up a newly created chapter and after they had finished they decided to stay on as officers etc...

Ok I'm not massively up on the fluff about chapter creation so I just kinda went with something that sounded vaguely logical to me ill give it dome more thought.

ok so what generally happens is something like this:

A chapter is required on regular intervals to send some of its geneseed stocks to mars to be tested for mutation and defects etc and also to store it in the event of a chapter wide disaster resulting in the loss or near entire distruction of the chapter. Sometimes the High lords decide that a new chapter needs to be formed so they ask the ad mech for some gene seed to maek a chapter from, the ad mech gives em some that they have lying around (probably enough to make a couple of hundred marines i doubt a chapter is ever founded in full) and they also petition the chapter who's geneseed it belonged to to provide a group of experienced veterans and possibly a few relics to assist in the training and leadership of the new chapter. After all really only a space marine can properly lead and train space marines.
