Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

Hello all I just finished collecting my IG army and expect for buying/assembling/painting a baneblade I am done. And I would like to know what would be a good idea to buy first to start off mainly to get a competitive 1000-1500 point list together? Thanks in advance Dakka

Lotta people asking the same questions. ><
Taken from this thread where someone asked the same question: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/347986.page
Just start from scratch, and check one of these for me so I can give you some direction:
[ ] I want a maximized firepower shooting army.
[ ] I want a very lethal ranged army with some close combat support.
[ ] I want a good mix of shooting and assault in my army.
[ ] I want an assault based army with enough ranged anti-tank to open vehicles and soften targets for my assaults.
[ ] I want a mostly assault based army capable of dealing with vehicles on the assault too.
[ ] I want a trick army that will take people by surprise.
[ ] I want my enemy HQ to be Steven Spielberg so that I can flay apart his soul over a thousand years for the abomination he created in Indiana Jones 4.
The short answer is that NO ONE can give you a decent answer (and I personally think it would be irresponsible to try) until you tell us more about what kind of army you want to play.

Well first of all thanks for the answer Dash I feel like i've read every one of your articles and I love your style of play. So keep it up I love reading all your battle reports!
Okay well to answer your army I would have to go with
[] I want my enemy HQ to be Steven Spielberg so that I can flay apart his soul over a thousand years for the abomination he created in Indiana Jones 4.
But in reality I know the strengths and weakness's of dark eldar but i think I'm gunna have to read the codex more but initially I really would like an assault based army with enough anti-tank to open vehicles and soften targets for my assaults.

Do you want a mechanized assault army or a non-mechanized webway portal type army?

I'd buy like three raiders, an archon, 2 boxes of warriors and some incubi, to start. Then you can expand with things like ravagers, reavers, mandrakes and wyches.

Ahh that sounds good but what about wychs after looking at the codex and reading some articles they get nothing but praise. Would it be a unit to use at 1500 or do you start breaking them out at 1850?

Ah...alright, mechanized assault.
Your HQ is up for debate, depending on what you think would fit into your army, and what troops you take - can't answer that yet. If you want wracks and grotesques, you'll need haemonculi. Honestly, if you want wyches, I'd still take haemonculi with them (wyches starting with FNP > wyches not starting with FNP).
Your troops will depend on what combination of flavors you want between wracks/wyches/etc.
Your elites are debateable, also depending on your perceived for more anti-tank (to give you something to assault), or elite assault units.
Your fast attack....debateable again; although in an assault army I would *highly* recommend a unit of beasts; they're cheap and ultra-effective. I wouldn't advise buying the models though, they're *ridiculously* overpriced. As in a unit of beasts is going to cost you $300. Conversions are your friend here. Hellions for beastmasters, LOTRO wargs or your choice of beasts for khymerae, take your pick for razorwings.
Your Heavy supports: No question about it, 3x Ravagers with 3x dark lances each.
------------------------------------------------------------
At this point, I think you can safely purchase a raider, a box of wyches, and three ravagers. What else you should get depends on a lot of things. =p I'm a big fan of Baron Sathonyx because he gives +1 to go first and his special rules (giving his unit stealth and offensive/defensive grenades) is a great addition to a beast unit. If you don't run beasts, and don't have a non-mounted unit for him to roll with, he's not such a good choice though.
Additionally, while wracks (and grotesques) have phenomenal ability to be scary assault units, there are no models for them....so you'd either have to wait or convert them yourself.
