Reserves arrive before your other units move. This means that the greater daemon is going to arrive before the champion moves that turn, and you don't get to move into a better position first.

I think the CSM rules allow for it to assault. Not quite sure, as ever since the 4th ed update I've never used a GD before.

They can assault (regardless of Daemon Type as long as it came from Codex: CSM), but cant move and apparently dont have fleet.
