Hey there people, as the title of the thread says I need some good advice/s on how to make good looking Plague Marines. So far i've done some basics, put a thin layer of Green Stuff and made some holes in it, kinda looks like warts or something. Nothing big, really. Anyway are there some good tutorials on how to make GOOD looking Plague Marines out there? So far i've only seen and found finished Plague Marines and i've got some inspiration by them but I have NO idea how to actually do it myself.

One thing I want to make is like a mouth on a marines stomach or shoulder with teeth and maybe even a tongue but I just can't do it... And I can't really describe it better than that, but I hope you guys get my point.

... Also, someone knows how to make good tongues and gasmasks?

some general tips: Make huge, distended bellies. These are what gives the PM's their characteristic resilience. Also, try some zombie heads. They are partially undead. Other modifications include:

1.) various GS boils. You can make this by putting a few tiny, tiny balls of GS on a section of armor, and smoothing the sides down to blend it into the armor. Then jab each ball in the center with a pin to create the hole in the boil. Then use a knife and jab at the sides of the ball, the parts connecting it to the armor, making it look like it's growing out of the armor.

2.) Drill holes in the armor. Their armor has rotted so this is a good way of showing it aging. For added bonus, glue some sand into the holes, which resemble crusty scabs and other filth.

3.) The quintessential Nurgle symbol. A simple sheet of GS over the shoulderpad/leg/chest armor with 3 holes poked out of it should suffice. Otherwise you can glue three skulls on it, drill three holes, or any other in that shape. Instantly screams "PM" in addition to the distended belly. Another symbol is the fly symbol (look to Typhus for a good example of this on his shoulderpad). It's really simple to make, and, while not as well known, is a symbol of nurgle too.

Thanks but "only" nr. 2 was useful information for me, and I thank you for that. Rest of that information I already knew. Meh, now I sound like "that guy", huh. :(

Anyway, any tutorials out there which maybe could help me? I've done some research myself and I have no idea if i'm just terrible at finding stuff, or maybe there aren't any.

There are a few nurgle tutorials floating around. This is the one I used when I first started converting PMs: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?172615-Nurgle-101-%28updated-Jul-13-with-custom-Nurgle-Dreadnought-power-claw%29

The key is amount. After you prime it and add paint it will all come together.

Also, when you drill the holes in the armour, wiggle the drill bit around a little bit, the holes won't look as uniform then. If you want to break it up even more, score the edges of the hole with a craft knife.

Woah... Amazing stuff... Thanks A LOT!!!!

Still, anyone knows how to make tongues or gasmasks or a "monster mouth" with teeth on a marines breastplate or shoulder/s?

Edit; And when I say tongues I mean like huuuge monster tongues in a gaping maw.

dunno about monster tongues, but for the "gasmask" you can use either small sections of thin plastic tubing to make the "vents" or use a length of guitar wire and glue one end to the "mouth" of the marine's helmet (except the beakie helm, which doesnt have a mouth) and the other end into his armor.

Well now I feel like a complete tool, but where do I buy these plastic tubes? What kind of stores?

Would be great if a swedish person could tell me this though, ugh.

I'm having trouble hunting them down myself too, so I cant help you there =x. Currently I make due with cut up bits of the Terminator's power fist cable, where if you cut off the little sections, they fit perfectly as the filter vents for a gasmask.

That's actually a pretty good idea. Will do that myself.

Anyway to other readers - I need tutorials/tips on how to make wide mouths on my marines breastplate/shoulders with a "monster tongue" and teeth.

That might require some intermediate sculpting skills. Maybe experiment with toothpick ends and some GS lips. Definately carve out a central hole for the teeth to go into.

You can use the plastic strings that come connecting many pairs of foam earplugs

You wanna know what I did?

You have been warned...

I melted the model until it looked nurglish, shaped some bubbles and gave his face a new look, made it look more rotten with GS and then I painted it... soz no pics

No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

Make a right past the Eye of Teror...no a left...wait a right!

A friend of mine used a small heat pen/iron (like those used in wood or leather craft kits) to create puss like areas on marines and on vehicles.
This created a surface that looked like it had been "green stuffed"

Be careful with this tool !!!

Sneeze on them.

Alternately, a little hot glue can make them look like slime is dripping from whatever.

Drybrush Tin Bitz or something similar over the weapons, make them look rusted and like any scratch is going to need a tetanus shot.

Base them with dead-colored grass. Make it look like they're tracking disease and death wherever they go.

Whatever colors you use, use pale, sickly versions of those colors, nothing bright and crisp. And then maybe drybrush something else over it just slightly, to further break up the clean lines and ordered uniforms of loyalist marines.

Ah yes, I remember those "heat pens" in school, like 7 years ago I think. I burned myself on it pretty bad. And i'm not going to touch one of those again.

Check in my gallery. I have a Dreadnought that I got through an army deal where a careless modeller literally drowned it in plastic glue. Everything was melted and molten when I recieved it. With the additions of some nurgle-themed pieces, It actually looks very much like a nurgle dread now.

Another method to add corrosion is to use a strong spray that dissolves plastic. Goof Off is both a good as a paint stripper for metal models, and for causing corrosion on plastic ones.

i have modelled a considerable lot of my PM out of regular marines. you could browse my Deathgaurd thread at the bottom of the post, or you could just

1. I agree with above poster. Drill lots and lots of little holes.
2. Make tiny balls of gs. wait till they harden. Cut them in half and when you apply some GS, texture it with the tip of a ball point pen or a wet tooth pic and then press a couple of your pre-made half balls of hardened GS into it to great boils.
3. for the essential cables and tubes i ususally use guitar wire and then bend it slightly.
4. super glue sand in very small amounts to the armor to create corrosion. River sand or beach sand is best since it is usually more rounded.
