So my friend told me that Dark Eldar have two monstrous creatures in their Heavy Support section with Toughness 7, decent all around stats, yet only cost 80 and 100 points. That seems broken...heck Daemons and Nids don't even have a single toughness 7 Monstrous Creature, and the ones with toughness 6 are usually over 200 points. So what is the downside of the DE MC? There has to be one for that point cost...

Comparatively slow when compared to the rest of the heavy support choices

Ravager is needed for anti-tank in most lists.

Only has 3 wounds, unlike Tyranid MC's that have 4 or 6 wounds.

You need to play a web way list in order to make it work, and web way lists depend on unreliable reserve rolls.

for 80 pts you get 2 attacks and short range S3 shooting attacks

For 100 pts you get D6 attacks which can let you down when you need it.

Carnifex was priced a bit too high in the tyranid book. they were worried that a unit of 3 MCs would be overpowered.

T7 does not make you invincible, just a bit harder to kill. Wraith Lords are T8 and they are not usually considered a super overpowered unit.

I would say though that they are very competetive monsterus creatues, but you are looking at a list that have them walk out of a webway portal or two. Fortunetly they are cheaper to buy (money) then a transport list.

yup, pain engines dont synergize well with the rest of fast DE. Everything is only as good as stuff around it. A unit can be ok for one army, weak for another, and overpowered for a third.
