Subject: Counts as units for Apocalypse Orks
|
 |
Boom! Leman Russ Commander

So I'm a big fan of taking units from other codices and representing them in my Apocalypse armies both fluff wise and with models that fit the parent army. So I've been going through some of my codices and have a couple ideas I thought I'd share, most of these aren't looted since Orks can loot anything
Hormagaunts: I would represent Hormagaunts in my Ork army with squigs, in a couple differant places I've read how Orks have roaming packs of Squig Hounds but they have no unit and I think that the rules for Hormagaunts fit squigs perfectly. Chitin (6+ save) is just their tough squig hide, scything talons (re-roll failed to hit rolls of 1) represents that their mouths are so large it's hard not to miss what they're biting at. Instinctive Behavior-Feed fits them perfecty and so does fleet and Bounding Leap.
Gargoyles: I think it would be funny to have a bunch of Rokkit Grots flying around, and there is even a model of one in the Stormboyz sprue. Plus Lurk fits the Grots nature
Mawlock: My idea for this is to represent it with a giant digging machine about to be launched into the ground, I can picture Orks making something like this so they can travel and fight on subterrainian worlds or breach fortresses.
Avatar of Khaine: This one is pretty simple you just make an Avatar of Gork (or Mork). The Daemon special rule would still apply as would fearless. Inspiring woulden't but it isn't hard to make Orks fearless anyway. Molten body is just how tough the Avatar is and The Wailinh Doom could be the Breff of Mork (or Gork).
Battlesuits: I haven't seen very many looted battlesuits so I'd like to create Rokkit Kans. It's the same prenciple as Killa Kans just using battlesuits as the base, I'd chop off 1 or 2 of the jet engines and replace them with Rokkits from the Stormboyz. Plus generally make them more orky.
Ogryn: Just really large Orks called Da Big Boyz
Ratlings: Ratlings have only slightly better stats then Grots so it makes sense that they could be Grot Sharp Shootas since it would take larger more independant Grots to take the role of snipers.
Obliterators: Mega Meks are Meks dat are armed to da teef and cary just about every gun imaginable, this combined with their teleporta attak and mega armor makes them very tough and very expensive for any Warboss who wants to hire them.

Titan-Orks copy the Imperium a lot, it makes sense they would finally steal/build their own titan
Hive Tyrant-Orks psychic ability can be severly underestimated especially by this poor enslaved tyran and his swarm of underlings

Those are some pretty rad ideas. I've been thinking how I could field a unit of Squigs in my army and Hormagaunts sound like a good idea.
Most of the other ideas are also not bad.

This isn't about looting (besides the battlesuit) anyone who plays Orks could use the idea of "I want this in my army so my Orks looted it". This is about representing units in an Ork army as if they where actually something the Orks made or are Orks themselves. Like instead of having a looted carnifex with Orks riding it it would be some kind of modified Deff Dred etc.

Love these ideas. I'd like to add a couple more:
Sentinal->Leggy Kan. I could see Grots using them.
Thousand Sons marines->Boyz who got Herd Squig brain transplants who need to be watched constantly lest their minds wander off. They actually had rules to this effect in GorkaMorka.

Personally the whole sneaky Grots thing is covered by ratlings, I can't see grots being Ninja (I mean I can picture Ninja Grots) but I take it your talking about counts as Stalking Scorpians and to me Grots woulden't be a sneaky cc unit they'd be a sneaky shooty unit.
So I mean by all means you wana do it go ahead it'd be cool to see just dosen't really work for me. I think I'll eventually be doing the squigs, Mega Meks, Rokkit Kans and Sharp Shootas. I really like the idea behind the Mega Meks to be honest, I think they'd be Bad Moon Meks who got so rich on Teef they made themselves all these snazzy guns and mega armor and work as freebooters.
