I am playing a pitched battle game against orks this sunday. The objective is "capture the flag" and the flag is in the center of the field. For each turn you are on the flag you get a kill point ... I am an imperial guard player

Do orks have any deep striking units that can kill tanks? Because im thinking of just parking my colossus and manticore in the back with the leman russ on the sides, while my chimeras get in close and shoot their boyz.... Also, I have 2 infantry powerblobs that are going to be sitting on the flag.

My main focus is to not get my collossus and manticore killed, and to avoid assaults as much as possible.

Orks don't really have much in the way of deep striking. They can deep strike Deffkoptas, which have rokkits (strength 8 AP3) that are okay, and stormboyz, who are just boyz with jump packs.

If you're running powerblobs, why are you trying to avoid assaults? Orks are a very good army, and assault is their strongsuit.

Orks are a very good 40k army in my eyes. There are many viable lists to pick from and have one of the most powerful units in the game (and one of the highest point cost)

You mean use the deffkopters scout move to altha strike dont you?

OP we dont have melta or anything that can kill AV14 at range with any degree of reliability. What we do have is great assault and the ability to ram your armour with deffrollers.

My advice for the guard player is to keep your tanks moving and dont give up easy side shots and also 3 vendettas filled with melta vets its pure win.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

Watch deff kptas sending side shots into your armor on the out flank, I love to hit defilers like this and interrupt chaos players heavy support fire fire. However the most clangorous attack that kptas might have against IG is the fact that they can actually attack while moving all out. Each Kopta armed with a big bomb can drop a lg blast at str4 ap5, if he has the 5 man squad that's five templates that only scatter D6 instead of 2D6. So if he has spent the points on a full unit he can devastate a large combined squad with all the ferocity of a void raven bomber, that is iof he can get the positioning. However Koptas acan get really expensive so you don't see this often. Boss Zagstrukk can assault the turn he deep strikes and he's an upgrade character for stormboyz, and is armed with a power klaw the turn he charges. Boss Snik rot can out flank from any table edge, that includes right behind you, but its a best only a 15 boty squad, so it won't fare so well against a large combined squad, but will certainly devastate ten man squad. Mostly though, the green skins come at you like others here have inferred.

Orks can deep strike a few units, but never really do.

Their outflankers or scouting deffkoptas are your main worry, as kommnados can rend your tanks to tiny little giblets. Not much else should bother you.

Man, and here I was ready to argue the philosophical debate about Orks being the one true balance to Chaos in the universe...

Ork Tactic #1: ignore all mission objective and table your opponent.

Ork Tactic #2: see Ork rule #1.

That is the extent of the ork Playbook.

This is how the wife plays her Orks against me; I have yet to win a game against her(came close once).

When I have taken her army to play and attempted to sieze objectives, I have lost bad(to focused on trying to get to and hold the objectives, and get wiped out by enemy fire). But when I have taken note of her playbook(with her army), I win every game as well.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

I like your style Kel, as an Ork player, There is no point where I leave thirty boyz, or even 30 stinikn grots, to baby sit an objective. That's why I believe the green skins aree the funnest army to play, followed by the nids. All other armies are just math hameer armies!

Deffcopptorz can deep strike, if they have bombz or rokkitz they can seriously mess you up; other than that, storm boyz are always unpredictiable

My tip is to make good use of the order "first rank fire, second rank fire" with a Veteran squad of 9 lasguns,

at 12" 27 Lasgun shots with a bs of 4 is deadly, I've taken out deffkoptas, severly injured or killed HQ units, inflicted 2 wounds on a trigon(I know its tyranid, but still)

Also make use of vox casters as well,

an orc squad may shoot 30 bs shots at you, but you can shoot hack with either 18 bs4 shots at 24",

Watch out for lootas though, I reccomend fielding a deep strike unit to take them out if he fields them and places them seperately from his main army

In short, yes. Farq the objectives; that sort of thing is for wimps. A standard approach for my army is "Get over to his army, and mangle it like it's made of rice-crackers. He can't take your objectives if he has no troops with which to do so." It's a very successful tactic, I find., and is one of the thing orks do better than almost any other army.
