Subject: Units that can cotrol objectives

Been Around the Block

The other night we had a couple games going when suddenly I heard, "Um, your Nightbringer cant hold objective points..." to which the reply was "Where is that writen down..." then we all looked at each other and realized we were just making things up.
So the question is "Is there a place where it is writen down. Is there a list of units somewhere that can capture and control objectives."

Only non-vehicle, non-swarm troop choices can hold points. Everything else can only contest. Theoretically this can be ignored if a unit has a special rule allowing it to capture despite not meeting those criteria, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Some scenarios in the Battle Missions book allow things other than troops to capture OBJs.

"I went into a hobby-shop to play m'self a game,
The 'ouse Guru 'e up an' sez "The Guard is weak and lame!"
The Chaos gits around the shelves they laughed and snickered in my face,
I outs into the street again an' grabbed my figure-case."
Oh it's "Angels this" an' "Space-wolves that", and "Guardsmen, go away!";
But it's "Thank you for the ordnance" when the Guard begins to play,
O it's "LOOK AT ALL THE ORDNANCE!" when the Guard begins to play.."

^ What Sir P siad.
For the most part only troops can hold objectives, and some troops can't even do that (swarms forv example). There are some non-troops that can be granted special rules specific to their codex that either allows them to be fielded as troops or allows them to count as scoring and sieze objectives (such as how taking Pedro Kantor makes Sterngaurd units scoring).
With planetstrike though, this changes.

Is it Troops only or Infantry type units? for example Nobs.
I read somewhere that Terminators can't hold points.
Is this all based on house rules or variable tury rules? Automatically Appended Next Post: And if so does this mean that units that count as Troop selection can take objectives?
Such as Nobs with a warboss or Deff dread with a big mek or Deathwing squad with Belial?

Pg 90 of the BRB.
An Army's scoring units are all units that come from its Troops allowance. The presence of other units may deny an objective to the enemy, but only Troops can control it. There are a few exceptions, however, when a unit of Troops does not count as scoring.
-If it is a vehichle.
-If it has the swarm special rule.
-If it has a special rule specifying it never counts as a scoring unit.
Units of Troops embarked in a transport can control objectives (measure the distance to their vehichle's hull).
That should answer your question.

Emperors Faithful got it head on. Note that in certain situations (mostly custom campaigns and certain Planetstrike and Battle Missions) this can change, but the rules provided by Faithful is used for all normal missions. In addition, there are a few units (most notably Sternguards under the command of Pedro Kantor) can hold objectives as well in normal games, however these will be detailed in their own rules.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
