I'm very new to this hobby, just starting 40k at Christmas and have managed to assemble a fairly decent sized Space Wolves army so far. I would like some recommendations for excellent cases to transport my army (in the future sure to be armies). Currently I have a fishing tackle box that is ok, but it's really only adequate for figures, and even some of the larger ones don't fit well. On top of that I've had to cut my own foam to make padding for them and that is really time consuming. Some of my terminators, all my thunderwolves, and my vehicles are left having to be transported in another box.
I don't have a problem spending money to efficiently and safely carry my models as I've spent enough money and time on them to where I'd rather spend a little more and be confident they'll arrive in one piece and undamaged than skimp on cost and hold my breath transporting them. At the same time I do't want to overpay.
So what companies make good transport cases?
In your experience what size is the best based on future army expansions?
What features should I look for?
Any other tips or pointers would be great.
Thanks.

Here's some good info about miniature storage. Read through the whole thread and you'll see what type of foam inserts to buy, too.
It's an older thread so please don't necro it.

I have a large roll-away toolbox from Lowes for my terrain and gaming aides.
I bought the infamous $10 Walmart pistol case for my actual army. It's a steal and a half. Other than my Monolith everything fits inside and the bottom layer is large enough for vehicles that aren't as ginormous as a Monolith.

I was using an old ski boot box and some foam until recently, when a friend gave me the aforementioned pistol case. That'll be fun to take through airport security in the future. (:

The 10 dolllar Wal-mart case is the shizzle! It comes one layer pluck and pull and two egg crate style foam. If you interlock the egg crate foam, you get awesome tank foam that I cut to hold 2 baal preds, 1 land raider, 2 rhinos, and a dread in my case. And the pluck and pull holds 40 marine sized models, I made little cuts on the edges to hold ten more. And it still has space for a top layer of foam.

Tupper-ware and Grocery bags....lots of both. Trust me, some people who go to the tournaments nearby do the same thing, it works, and a roll-away toolbox usually works to store them in.

I use battlefoam trays for the density. My IG infantry used to take up a stack of GW trays 24" tall. Now it's in 9" of battlefoam. I carry it in the cardboard box the foam was shipped to me in, because the shop I game at is about 4 blocks away.

Shoebox. My models are already glued securely so there's little to worry about parts falling off.
I recently bought one of those foam Army Box holder things for $20.
Now all I need is foam.

Look over their site, check out their pre-cut trays for your army of choice and if those don't suit you check out the custom tray designer, where you can have a tray custom cut to suit your needs. After determining how many trays you'll need and the depth of each tray, then decide what size bag you'll need to house all that foam. I recently ordered a 1520 XL for my new dark eldar and it should be delivered on tuesday. I can't wait! I've been carrying them around in hand made trays with card board tubes to separate each figure.

The battle foam stuff looks like some of the best stuff going if you can afford it. make sure you get it big enough to cover your complete army, and not just what you may have now.....ie leave room to grow your force a bit!

Battlefoam 432, since it fits what I actually use and not just one size of troops, and has some nice pockets for accessories
Better value and practicality than a GW bag, and I won't be going back to toolcases with eggcrate foam in them, too many fragile resin/metal figures to have them grinding against each other

A lot of people convert toolboxes to save money, too. Depends on what you need, really. What game, what army, etc. You can carry a Warmachine force easily in a mid-sized toolbox, but might needs something bigger for 40k ImpGuard.

Plastic with a good coat of varnish is fine in a box but metal minis need some foam. I'm using a pipette tip box with foam for my 2 metal minis in the army (MoTF and Vulkan)

I have the GW troop and vehicle cases but I found a set of plastic toolboxes that I use to transport a lot of my stuff as well. Got them at a truck overstock shopping area called A to Z got the three piece set in various sizes for 14 bucks.
I played with a guy that used a metal toolbox and had his stuff magnetized on the bases so they would stick and not move around.
