Does anybody know a cheap, effective way to strip plastic models? Bear in mind that I live in the UK and that I have relatively limited funds.

Its a winner all right and the right price.

A note to mods though, not that anyone reads stickies, but can we have a stickied hows to to strip plastic/metal models thread?

Simple Green. Even if you buy it online it will still be the cheapest way.

Mix with 1 part water 1 part Simple Green concentrate. Leave models in overnight.

Clean with an old toothbrush.

Repeat overnight soaks as needed.

lmao... 10 years later and this question is still going strong. SEARCH function would've saved the OP a WHOLE lot of time.

I've tried a couple things, industrial purple, super clean, brake fluid...so far the best thing I've used is the brake fluid, but it's random...metal figs strip down to the metal with all of these products...but I can't strip the basecoat which is gw chaos black spray paint...I've only been able to strip 2 models down to the plastic out of the 50 boyz I have stripped down...it's very weird

I've stripped cars, warhammer 40k, and aircraft models with that stuff...

Simply awesome.

If that doesn't work try fairy power spray. An overnight soak in that suff removes most paint, and it will never damage the plastic- I've left a crisis suit in a cup of it for months.

4M2A I'm with you there.

I used fairy power Spray on old squats and left them in it (possibly forgetting them....old age is infuriating) and it worked brilliantly and didn't damage the naff old plastic GW used to use.

Its worth a go and sometimes its on sale for a quid a bottle.
