This past weekend I attended the Genghis Con 40k tournament. In total there were about 70 people that showed up for the 2 day 5 game event. Letting my daemons take a well deserved break I decided to break out my deathwing and some of my old ravenwing models (I don't think my ravenwing have seen the light of day since 4th edition).
You can find all the scenarios used for the tournament here: http://files.meetup.com/1305240/GhengisCon_2011_40K_Scenarios.pdf
I've summarized the primary and secondaries as part of my reports but if you want to see what all the bonus points then click above.

My Army
HQ
Belial, twin lightning claws
Troops
5 Deathwing Terminators, 2 lightning claws, 3 thunder hammer & storm shield, cyclone missile launcher, apothecary, chapter standard

Ravenwing Attack squadron, 2 melta guns, attack bike w/ multi-melta
Ravenwing Attack squadron, 2 melta guns

Game #3 vs. Blood Angels
Mission: Victory Points (you get double the points of the opponents most expensive unit), secondary score more kill points
Deployment: pitched battle
HQ
Reclusiarch, jump pack
Librarian, jump pack
Elite
Librarian Dreadnaught
Corbulo
2 Sanguinary Priests, jump packs, power weapons
5 Terminators, 2 lightning claws, 3 thunder hammer & storm shield
Troops
10 Assault Marines, power fist, melta guns
10 Assault Marines, power fist, melta guns
Fast Attack
5 Vanguard Veterans, 5 storm shields, 2 inferno pistols, 1 lightning claw, 2 power fists
Heavy Support
Storm Raven
Deployment: This was the first and only roll I won to go first the entire tournament. And I took it. I deployed everything on the table. The bikes ready to scout forward before turn one and all the terminators clumped up centrally. He chooses to reserve everything. The bike's scout back towards my terminators.
Deathwing Turn #1: I circle the wagons. Basically my ball o' terminators moves up and run's, and the bikes flat out around the circle, making it hard for him to charge anything except bikes with his storm raven unit.
Blood Angels Turn #1: Crickets
Deathwing Turn #2: I circle the wagons again, but have now advanced to the center of the table.

Blood Angels Turn #2: He gets in his storm raven, and that's it.
Deathwing Turn #3: I dump 3 cyclones, 4 melta guns, and 2 multi-melta's into his storm raven and fail to do anything (I did force him to use his re-roll for corbulo). And then in a fit of insanity I try to crack grenade the storm raven (I still don't know what I was thinking on this one).

Unfortunately this was where I stopped taking pictures. All the action happens around that storm raven either behind it or right next to it for the rest of the game.

Blood Angels Turn #3: He get's in his assault squad with librarian, and the vanguard. The vanguard drop in next to my exposed bike squad and kill them for free. He gets his terminators out of the raven and they assault and kill another bike squad, but won't be able to get away from my terminators.
Deathwing Turn #4: I only have one squad of terminators within assault range of his terminators and I take it. I kill one terminator, he kills one. We remain locked in hth. I manage to shake the storm raven, and I vainly try to pop a couple of vanguard.
Blood Angels Turn #4: His dreadnaught gets out flies over my lines and kills a bike squad. The reclusiarch gets out of the storm raven, joins up with the vanguard who assault my terminator squad locked with his terminator squad. In the multi-combat I kill off another terminator. The vanguard do some whiffing even with the reclusiarch and the few wounds my opponent gets through I manage to save locking them both in hth. His other squad comes in on the far side of the table and doesn't participate. His storm raven kills an attack bike.
Deathwing Turn #5: I assault his dreadnaught with 2 squads of terminators. The dread kills no one but my 24 power fist attacks manage to not kill him, but they do immobilize and rip both arms off of him. My command squad and one other terminator squad assault into the massed combat. His vanguard pass every save forced on them by my assaulting squad. The command squad was only able to make it into base to base with the reclusiarch who goes down. His lone terminator breaks and run's but the vanguard stay.
Blood Angels Turn #5: His termie is too close so he has to run misses the table edge by an inch. The storm raven kills off my last attack bike. The librarian and assault squad charge into the combat, mainly against my command squad. Belial whiffs only taking out a couple, I lose about 2 more terminators, he loses some assault guys, but his fist squishes Belial, I make all my fearless saves and we go on to turn #6.
Deathwing Turn #6: I squish his librarian and priest and kill off the rest of the assault squad which forces the vanguard to break and run. As a side note my squad of terminators that the vanguard assaulted and the vanguard themselves never lost a model the entire close combat, it was insane the number of saves those two squads made. My consolidate moves aren't enough to reach his lone terminator.
Blood Angels Turn #6: His terminator rallies.

We are tied on kp's so neither of us gets the secondary. But since his vanguard are a whopping 640pts (because of the doubling) I get the win. I made a big mistake assaulting the storm raven with the biker's, their grenades weren't going to do anything and it made them unsupportable. His vanguard were able to come in, eat them and then get back out of assault range basically getting a free kill point and a free 140 victory points. If he would have succeeded in killing the terminator squad when his vanguard and reclusiarch charged in that would have put him up 3 kill points for no return from me. The terminators holding that one round is what saved the game.

literally circling the wagons. I love it.

Nice to see an army built around a solid core wipe the board with a toy-heavy list like that.

Yeah my opponent was definitly intrigued by it. Although I think he got tired of me humming the theme song to Bonanza. It's the main way I came up with for keeping nasty assault units from charging my terminators, at least for a turn or two.

Thanks!, I had actually painted it up for use in games, and was struggling to come up with a board idea that was quick and easy. Eventually I think I would like to make a display base that looks like the interior of a hulk. But not enough time, and 9 buck at the grocery store (for the cork board), and some primer, and 2 highlights of paint and viola new display board.

i'm all about using existing stuff in collections for a display base. obviously yours is much more impressive (and expensive!) but i also incorporated a unique (although some might consider it *cheap*!) display base for my spacehulk fig deathwing army...

Nice report. On turn #3, was any of your melta stuff in melta range? If so, that is some poor luck, even with a 4+ save.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points

That was a tight game that could have gone either way. I dont think you can honestly make a claim that you wiped the board. Basically Lady Luck smiled on you a bit more. This batrep does show the strength of DW versus another high tech assault army due to your plethora of 3++.

The Stormraven ignores the Melta rule...

I, as a blood angels player, am kind of surprised you didn't beat him a little harder then that. with only 35 marines total including HQs, priests and Corbulo seems like a rather light list. in a 2000 point list I usually field 40 assault marines before I even think of anything else.

Also his VV squad was really bloated, 320 points for 5 dudes! holy crap!

bad luck and that one bike assault on the Storm R probably cost you dearly.

The problem was mobility and since it was victory points a distinct lack for him to move anywhere on the table. He has enough speed to dance around and choose the engagement point for everything except the terminators (once the raven is popped). He could have tried to dance the entire game, and just use the raven to pick off bikes/attack bike's and take a minor win (they aren't worth enough to give him a major win). I do like more bodies on the table, but man do those vanguard have the potential to hit really hard. I don't know if I'd pay the points for the squad but I definitley see how they can chew through a lot of stuff.

Out of interest was the reclusiarch originally with the vanguard?
If he was then they couldn't have assaulted after deepstriking.
Regardless, it looks like a good game, and well done.

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

The reclusiarch had been hiding in the storm raven with the terminators and corbulo. So the turn after the vanguard dropped in he got out of the storm raven and joined up with them. That storm raven was one juicy target, librarian dreadnaught, reclusiarch, corbulo, and 5 terminators.

That Storm Raven was overloaded by one model if I am reading this correctly....

It only has a transport capacity of 12. JP and Termies count as 2 slots. so having corbulo in there put him over the limit.

Anyways, Great BR!

How do you like Belial with LC's? I used to use him that way, then switched to TH/SS but am now thinking about going back. Nice to have a I5 guy with lots of attacks to clear out some of the enemy before they can potentially strike, but it makes him so much more vulnerable to insta-kill from hidden fists.

Grats on the win! Though a VP primary objective with a KP secondary objective made me raise my eyebrow a bit. Usually, when I run an event I try to make the secondary different to the primary...

Without EW, He's vulnerable anyway. I run mine with Twin Lightning Claws just because all the rest of the fellas have TH/SS.

The insta-kill hurts sometimes. But honestly in this game it's my own fault. I left a gap in my pile in moves that allowed my opponent to get in there. I could have easily prevented his one fist from getting in there if I'd have thought about it. The ability to get 5-6 (if he's in the banner squad) ws5 attacks off at i4 really helps against a lot of things. As long as you keep the command squad as a counter-assault unit it's fairly easy to keep him out of the insta death range. Plus at his bargain basement price of 130pts I usually don't mind losing him instead of additional terminators if it comes to that.
