I play mostly a Kan wall type army at around 1500 pt level. So, it's 9 kans, a deff dread, a couple of KFF Big Meks, some Lootas and a few buzzsaw koptas. Right now I've been playing with 3 squads of 20 boyz, all with PK Nobs. Do you think it would be wise to change that to 2 squads of 30 boyz? That would save me about 40 pts on the Nob I'm not taking, which I could use somewhere else. Maybe skim a few more points somewhere and add a mob of grots to hold objectives or something like that. The 3 units of 20 have been working ok so far, but I'm thinking mobs of 30 would be more resilient. Of course, I am loosing a PK, but with 9 kans and a dread, there's no PK shortage. What do you think? Which is better, 2 of 30 or 3 of 20?

Not only that, but its 3 squads your opponent has to deal with, instead of 2. Also the way I build my mobs out, its 6 rokkits/3 pks in stead of just 4/2

The three squads of 20 will be 40 points more expensive because of the extra nob upgrade, pk, and boss pole but that 40 points pays dividends in my opinion.

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.”

I prefer 2 squads of 30 over 3 squads of 20.

30 is such a pain to remove.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

On the train headin down to delicious town

3 of 20...not only for the extra PKs and fire needed to take them down.

Thats an extra scoring unit!

Not to worry, that block of chedder can be tied up easily with 30 boyz, can get his ass handed to him in a match with Ghazzy, and can be squigified with Zogwort. How satisfiying would that be? ....Squigfiston, Lord of gak...

But thats Illogical. Say you take 21 casualties from shooting, if you only have a squad of 20, that 1 casualty goes away! Doesnt with 30.

Tough choice, but... in a Kan Wall build like yours I would have to opt for 2 units of 30. The extra squad would be cool because a) it's an extra target, and b) an extra scoring squad, but if you are worrying overmuch about those concepts, you lose sight of the function of your list. Kan Walls are about overwhelming your opponent numerically and by weight of firepower, and in that sense the larger number (30) wins.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Going to jump in with the "3 squads of 20" boyz - provided that if they are on foot, they're all shoota boyz, there's a nob with a powerklaw and a bosspole in each unit, and that if points ever make themselves available after nine kans, two KFFs, appropriate Lootas and deffkoptas, that you'd be looking to upgrade to 3x30 instead of 3x20.

Alternatively, I'd definitely encourage you to find 40 points for a unit of gretchin. They're a game-decider in Capture and Control missions or Seize Ground missions where you've got an objective in your backfield. Spending a unit of 20-30 boyz sitting in your backfield camping an objective is a poor allocation of resources; that's what gretchin are for!

3x20 boyz and find 40 points for a gretchin unit. Or knock it down to 2x20, and spend the extra points on gretchin and more Lootas. You don't have to be able to grab every objective (but lets face it, even a 40 point gretchin unit can stretch out 30" and capture several objectives). But with your mass of kans and boyz, you'll be up in midfield at worst, contesting whatever your enemy is trying to hold while holding everything behind your own lines.
