I'm aiming this particular thread at everyone who is so bored and thinks themselves so superior that they have to go onto everyone's threads and be critical of everything the person put down. You put a question out there because you want people's opinions on the matter, not their criticism.

Sometimes criticism is part of their opinion. If I do a paint job, and ask people 'what do you think?' I don't want to JUST hear 'that's nice' or 'good job'. I want to also hear 'Maybe it'd be better if you....' or 'Have you tried...?'
Criticism is a healthy thing that should be encouraged. Noone is perfect, and having someone point out a person's flaws is usually a good thing.
THat being said, unhelpful criticism should be discouraged. Give advice, try to get the person to improve...don't just tell them they suck.

Thank you! Thats what i was getting at. Ive noticed all around dakka there is always one person who will be referred to as "That guy" Who always has to put their two cents in about how wrong everyone else is and how right they are. And a lot of the time they just tend to bash people...

You can also have different opinions on a subject, which leads to disagreement. Some people can be a little too opinionated though, and I see your point.

And there's plenty of people on Dakka who need to realize that posting every single time you have an idea that leads you to think "wouldn't it be cool if..." will, in fact, not be met with "Whoa! You blew my mind with awesome!"..but more likely will be met with "Why did you post this idea? It's not thought out, it's nowhere near being of a decent enough quality to be posted", etc etc.
Then of course there's the people who ask for information that's been posted before...and before that...and before that.
Moral of the story?
It's not a case of "everyone who is so bored" or even, in most cases, "thinks themselves so superior".
It's a case of "This is the Internet".
There's nobody standing over your chair with a gun to your head, forcing you to post an idea the second it pops into your head or preventing you from actually doing a search for the answer for your question before you ask it on the forums.

Criticism is the judgement of the merits and faults of the work or actions of an individual or group by another (the critic). To criticize does not necessarily imply to find fault, but the word is often taken to mean the simple expression of an objection against prejudice, or a disapproval.
Criticism is part of somebody's opinion. If you're asking for opinions, don't expect them all to gel with yours. If they did, what's the point of asking for opinions anyway? As much as I'd like everybody to pat me on the back for every single thing I do, it's more helpful if they tell me what I did wrong and how to make it right. There's a big divide between criticizing somebody's work and just trolling them though. If I tell you your paintjob isn't very good but give you advice how to improve it, that's fine. If I tell you your paintjob is terrible and you should jump under a bus, that's obviously not.
I'm coming from this as a guy who tends to be very critical of posts here. However, I almost always impart some constructive criticism there unless the idea is irredeemably bad, or their posting is truly awful.

And the general rule of thumb is that you ignore that person. Admittedly, I've got no-one on my ignore list, but when I'm Dakka I know who to listen to and who to ignore.
I expect you'll find that after a while of perusing the Dakka boards, you'll learn for yourself who you believe to be of a valid opinion and - if you're anything like myself - you'll constantly be learning.
Like most things, particularly the internet it seems, you have to cut through the chaff and that means ignoring the trolls who try to shoot down everything you say.
As, for your comment of 'taking this game and site way too seriously', that's not a good perspective to use. I'm trying to be polite here and SRM probably was too - btw, he's one of the people (above) that's worth listening to - as you are seemingly new to Dakka, but generally you'll be on such a forum because you have an interest in the hobby and everyone to varying degrees takes it seriously. It also suggests that your apparently being 'upset' or 'aggravated' (as you may well be to my response) means in-fact, that it is you taking it too seriously.
Everyone has an opinion on the internet, it's up to you whos you listen to. Generally, if someone contributes nothing then you ignore them. Otherwise, even if they contribute despite also being critical (read: advice, not just criticism. i.e. constructive) they're contributing nonetheless.
Or as SRM so eloquently put it: "If I tell you your paintjob isn't very good but give you advice how to improve it, that's fine. If I tell you your paintjob is terrible and you should jump under a bus, that's obviously not. "

I think more to the point the OP is refering to troll like posters, people who get so opinionated and so up at arms that they make a P&M Blog seem like "You Make Da Call". To that end I wholeheartedly agree, but that is an often lamented stereotype of the internet, the power people abuse due to their anonymity

as many of others here have stated you have to sift the negative-nancies and find what to take in for yourself , it seems that here aswelll as the entire internet, there are many people who just live to dump on other people's ideas, even well thought out ones, but then there are those who will offer some form of useful ideas or veiwpoints, and those are what makes this exercise worth while.
I find that sometimes just a encouraging word here or there means a great deal to my drive to complete a project or idea, but just as often aa negative one will frustrate me into second thoughts and force me to expand on my concept even more to perhaps get the negative poster on board.....but some people are not interested in that, so after and attempt or two I will just move on, unless what they propose actually improves on my concept or shows me something I have overlooked.
That being said I tend to restrict myself to only commenting when I have something more to contribute than a 1 sentence reply.
Or when I don't have anything nice to say......as the saying goes.

Actually Waaagh, your use of critique (and spelling) was fine.
Another point I'd add, is whilst post-count isn't very indicative of content-quality, it can suggest an experienced opinion and people generally respect DCM's more (I'm only recently one, don't look at me). I also find what someone has in their sig can be indicative of their personality. For example, the "if the jonas brothers were to jump off a building" or "98% of teens listen to rap" sigs I find to suggest someone pretty young and/or therefore immature and their opinion TYPICALLY less valid.
Obviously this is only an observation and therefore not law, but I'm just trying to help.
I'm not saying I'm old or mature (I'm neither), but I at least know what I meant...

There! Much more accurate now.
You can't understand a word they sing nowadays. Well I say sing, it's all that talking while signing for the hard of thinking and/or catterwalling like a banshee in heat.

As others have said, there is nothing wrong with good honest critique, which is beneficial.
May be wrong but am assuming Feeder to be referring to a criticism made for the sake of being contrary and winding people up, or being negative just for the sake of it.
Not sure the problem is as bad as the OP makes it sound, Feeder, but you get used to which forums and members to try and avoid, as Dave said.
But when there are 50 billion members ( I am convinced Legoburner is cooking the books!) someone is bound to disagree with someone. There were only four of us kids in our family and that was enough to have someone to be falling out over something at any given moment!
Dave,

Some types of criticism I've seen borders on trolling. However there will always be these kind of people (the most memorable one I've had was someone claiming the Trygon in the Nid codex to be that of the Forge World Trygon instead of the plastic set). Alot of people get off on pushing other people's buttons, and hiding behind a computer screen, the biggest reprocussion they can get is being banned from the forum, whereas in real life, they'll probably end up with a broken nose.
As much as I hate to say it, such people will always exist. Best we can do is simply ignore them or laugh at them. However, while some people's crits can come off as this at first (as their post might be worded somewhat maliciously) there can be that diamond in the rough, where there is some truth in their words. After all, the person most likely to see your flaws is someone who cares nothing for your feelings.
Many of us here though have had extensive experience in whatever we're trying to comment on, or at least a good understanding. It's not surprising that we want to share this bit of knowledge. I personally will crit whenever I get the chance, especially when I know for sure about the subject at hand, since almost all of my knowledge came from trial and error. It's also fun to engage in this type of convo as you exchange knowledge with someone else in a coherent fasion.

It has been about people who just come on and make comments to be difficult because they know they can AKA "Trolls" I just couldnt think of the term for it when i made my Thread
