So...I really like Tyranids, and I like the following models:
Hive Tyrant (The new version is freakin' insane!)
Old School Genestealers (These were some of the first GW minis I ever saw/owned, so they are nostalgic for me)
Trygons (What's not to love)
Tyranid Warriors (The archetypical Tyranid, as well as a slick model since the 3rd ed revamp, although I love the old Space Crusade ones too).
Carnifex (The newest plastic version is always a phenomenal model)
So....Can I really make an army out of all this stuff and not get laughed off every table I play on? (I'm willing to concede certain necessary evils/troops/units, but it would be awesome if I could include at least one of the above in my army and still remain moderately balanced.)

You can make a nidzilla list at higher points, but there are a lot of armies out there that will simply shred it. Missile Spam, Dark Eldar, and highly mobile armies in particular will give you a very hard time.

Alot of people spam ML and MG now, which work very well on the big nids.
However i've seen some nice nidzilla builds that can do well so the theory isn't dead.
I'd grab Tervigons, its a MC and it spawns scoring units, whats not to love?
Either way, Nidzilla lists are just fun to play!

Trygon prime is your best MC. It is T6, W6, and has A6. It also deep strikes and has a S5 AP5 assault 12 weapon that is awfully fun.

Lol but you forget that the models are worth 5pts each a squad of 15 is only worth 75 points and it will kill it's points lol unless you get blasted but they can have fnp and fearless I've taken out plague marines and a squad of zerkers with aa 15man squad and a 11 man squad losing 12 from the 15 then got assaulted by a demon prince and lost the rest but the marines where a 6 man squad and the zerkers where an 8man squad

You can still create a variant on Nidzilla, but the old elite options are dead and carnifexes are out in many lists for the newer, shinier Trygons.
The typical lists squeeze in 6-7 MCs from HQs to Troop to Heavy slots being filled (2 Tyrants, 2 Tervigons, 3 Trygons). It is true that it is not pure Nidzilla as the Tervs spawn a swarm of little buggers, but it houses alot of MCs and asks for the enemy to ignore the little guy as the big guys rumble down the field.

No, you misunderstood me. I meant nidzilla as a competitive tyranid build is dead. The new competitive nid build is T6-spam, using not only MC's, but hive guards and some termagants as well.

Well, yes; the original list is dead. It will never be pure Nidzilla.

I think carnifex's should move the the troop cat, or allow units of up to 6.

Yeeeeeea, thats some serious wishful thinking. The Carnifex is easy enough to wound sure, but allowing 6 of them in a unit is simply way OTT.

While it would be very hard on your wallet if it does not work I should think a list with tervigons, hive gaurds and carnifexes ann mass could be good because of all the T6. It could potensialy be ONLY T6 with the exeption of 10 termigaunts.
2 HA Tervigons
6-9 hive tyrants
10 termagaunt troops
1 tervigon troops
rest carnifex broods.

Weak link is the warriors. I use the rest of that list of units with quite a bit of success. My only warrior in my lists now is a Prime. The rest is absolutely doable. Hit me up via pm if you wanna chat it up.

You should remind him that spawning Termagants isn't a required action then.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Also tervi's are a extremely unreliable (some games they are amazing others they blow their O-ring on 3 gaunts)
Nidzilla can work, against a ML spam or similiar list you need venomthropes out of LOS giving your bugs cover saves at least, you also need some smaller bugs to apply early pressure (I usually use gargoyles since they are cheap, dangerous, and have feed)
As you play it more, you'll find that without the really good saves, higher toughness and cheaper cost of 4th ed, the MC's aren't nearly as good, they can cause much more damage point per point, but are more fragile in return and are expensive enough that you cant really get target saturation.
Best list is IMHO not swarm or nidzilla but somewhere inbetween, gargs and stealers are too good to ignore but can't really carry an entire army themselves.

I use Warriors either 3 or 5 depending on point level, and use the HT to out flank them. Been stellar in most games from me.
