I've been contemplating a new approach to my nids.
My list containts alot of monsters (around 7) And I was wondering how to deploy them. So I thought, well monsters get picked out and gunned down, soooo, why not just make a clump? I run 3 fexes with devil guns at the front, with a Lord and 3 guard behind that, 2 trygons on either side of him, and a Tervigon at the back. Is this a good tactic often? I did it only once and it simply could not be stopped and tabled my opponent.
What are your thoughts?

The Tyranids are like the great Hydra, remove one head, two more will sprout from it's neck equally deadly, they care not for plea for mercy, for they have no soul to care. All that is left in the void of their soul is a hunger, It is this, that the marines cannot kill...

I guess it depends on your opponent. A Dark Eldar list will probably table you no later than turn 3 with that list.

You can't really make an All comers list with almost exclusively TMCs.

That sounds suspiciously similar to what I face on a regular basis with my Chaos and Dark Eldar... It's a bygone conclusion that Dark Eldar are kind of predisposed to killing Tyranids, so I'll not waste time telling you that you'll have a tough time against them. I will tell you that presenting that many Monstrous Creatures makes it very difficult to select just one target to kill as they advance down the board, so I think that you're on the right track with this idea.

Although, take my advice with a grain of salt. I am by no means a Tyranid player.

Post your list I'm very interested in seeing what your runing your genestealers plus you walking wall sounds realy good wig the threat of stealers will keep your opponent away from the edges and alow you to corner them so it's could be very nice

Yeesh. Probably worse than DE is RP/long fang-spam SW. Imagine rune priest coming down in drop pod with jaws.....

Yeah, that's my SW list.

While your list is very brutal in assault, it isn't very balanced. Using a 570pt unit as a screening unit is neither efficient nor optimal and relying on assault against the best armies out there isn't terribly efficient as well.

DE, shooty -SW or shooty-BA, IG, assault-terminator-spam are just some of the lists that will give your army trouble. But otherwise, you'd give a lot of armies fits.

Just like the nob biker armies of old, you'll table a lot of your opponents, but once you go up against a good, balanced army, you will find the tables turned.

pointing out that DE would slaughter this list is like saying that the sun is bright. GW apparently designed DE to make a mockery of nids so that should be a forgone conclusion that DE would be a hard fight. i agree that the carnifex as a screen seems like a waste of points. why not substitute the DOOM and the broodlord for a unit of venomn throaps assuming you have them. that would allow your nids a cover save and the dangerous terrain might help mitigate any opposing charges.
also ... you already have a ton of MC for vehicle killing so the zoanthroaps are a bit overkill, could you drop them for another unit fo Hivegaurd to allow you to atleast threaten a DE force at a distance.

Then I would lose the hormagaunts and doom for another tervigon and Prime with two venomthropes. Two Tervigons can give your trygons feel no pain. Attach the Prime to the venomthropes and give them all a 5+ coversave.

I would invest in some Venomthropes. Nothing like laughing off 2 out of every 6 lascannon hits. Don't feel down about D eldar. even your humble flesh borer can hurt a raider. They will have as many as 3 times the kill points, and you can target thier troop down to nothing. They have to pretty much wipe the table with you to win. Although they can and will do that.....

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

In response to all those who suggest Venomthropes, I don't like their rules , the Hormagaunts are a huge treat to DE and I am considering Biovores for the extra DE stomping
Maybe the thropes are a bit much, but I don't have any models for more HG

Thanks for comments
