Hi, Im new to the site and I've been an off and on 40k player for the past several years. I was wondering if any of you have made buildings for a jungle/deathworld type setting or had pictures or tips on doing this. Im new at making terrain so I'd really appreciate the help.

Get a imperial building set, then with GS make viens, and shrubs, as well as dirt everywhere. and rust. in the end lots of green.

Are you looking for like a city that's been over run by jungle or more like tribal huts?

thanks blackdog, that helps a lot actually
I'll try to get that concrete color on some of the old buildings I have.

I'd like to make some over run buildings, because I already have some buildings but I'd like to make some tribal looking structures too.

A recurring theme over at The Jungle (Official site of the fighting tigers of Veda) is aquarium plants.

Aquarium plants are great resources. I've also seen dried herbs (big shaker of oregano is dirt cheap), ground cover/flock, and the contents of teabags (subsequently painted green) sprinkled onto lines of white glue used to emulate crawling vines. It's certainly a cheaper option (and easier, I'd say) than sculpting them with GS.

With jungle ruins, it seems that the foliage is what really makes them distinct from other locales. Stock terrain with some added greenery should do the trick, just fine.

Getting back to buildings, in Asia the most common jungle architecture is made from bamboo - which obviously isn't going to stop a krak missile but is relatively easy to model.

Here you find a good collection of Vietnam War style terrain: buildings, sand bank bunkers, even gunboats:

And yes, aquarium decoration provides good plants

I dunno, aquarium plants don't cut it for me. I live 10 minutes away from a jungle and I don't see plants that look like aquarium plants. Ever.

If it's an Asiatic jungle, you need to learn how to make trees of all kinds (well, except conifers). Deciduous trees have all kinds of tutorials out there: the most cheap and realistic way of doing them is by twisting copper wires together, covering them with glue and adding foliage. Bamboo are also common (but it's a pain in the ass to mimic their leaves. Branches are much more easier to do), banana trees and coconut trees. My one peeve against pre-made supposedly-coconut trees: they have solid leaves. Example here:

That shouldn't be the case at all.

Those "leaves" are actually branches made up of a lot of leaves. So yeah. /endrant

But of course, if this is for 40k you can always justify them as alien trees or something.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

If you want to make tribal huts, you can buy large bags of matchsticks for not a great deal of money. I bought a bag of (I think) ~14,000 for about £10. You can get them in batches of up to 100,000 or even 200,000 if you want to build an entire full size house or something.

They should be ideal for building shacks, huts and even more complex wooden structures. Also good for building duckboards, trench walls, bridges and so on.

I've used mine to build a pretty cool trench system:

I think it's just, well, like that supposedly Vietnamese Jungle above, they're supposed to represent Earth. So... yeah.

And yes, looks like the do.

I live ten minutes from various factories and I have never seen any structure that looks like a pringles can with a drinking straw coming out of the side of it...

Terrain is an approximation of what it represents. Some people are better at it then others, but most of the terrain people build is "close enough" at best...

That's why it's a pet peeve. I just can't stand it. At least with buildings, if it is from the future you can use the "yeah, it's from the future" excuse. With plants, you can't. Especially if you're making historical dioramas.

I think another problem is that it's not even close enough except for the fact that a) aquarium plants are green and b) aquarium plants have leaves. Well whatever floats your boat: as I have said, you can always say it's a plant from a different planet.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Plastic plants from Hobby Lobby/Michaels are a cheap way of making jungle terrain. Wait for one of their 50% off sales and $20 will get you a table's worth of terrain.

This one is not mine, but its a great example of a "lost city".

I would do normal buildings and add the overgrowth. Moss or even trees coming out.
