I'm curious because at $75CDN the Necron Battleforce is an amazing deal from them, but the 12 pounds for the insurance makes it almost the same as buying it here. Also I have no idea if Canada Post will hit me with customs. >_<

I've never gotten dinged from Canada Post: Ordered to Ontario and British Columbia.
I've never used insurance. So imho, it's totally, totally worth it.

Agreed. I'm mostly doing it to build a secret army the guys that work at GW don't know about. They think I'm only starting to learn 40k with SW. Automatically Appended Next Post: They have lots of holes in their Necron stock.

I'm just going to point out that there are a number of North American retailers that offer roughly the same discount as Malestrom, including and not limited to Battle Roads and the Warstore.
Mail travels very easily between the US and Canada.

True, but the Warstore you have to ask about their stock, it's a bit of a pain.
Mithrax, does it come through Canada Post? That's the most important part for me.

I've order from across the pond twice now in the past month and they've both come in with no dues required.
It all depends on how much you are ordering, the order has to make it worthwhile for customs to want collect dues.
As you are in Quebec, it may be different than BC, but order the box and see what happens (that's what i did), it's still cheaper than ordering from a Canadian retailer due to our dollar being so high.
Generally UK dealer send it out via Royal Air or what ever it's called and then Canada post will drop it off at your house like any regular mail, if the don't collect duties.

I've ordered boxes smaller than a battleforce and had them held at the office for pick up. Wouldn't a battleforce be held to pickup? Not from customs or anything. Is there a way to force that?

The boxes that i got were the size of battleforces (they were packed into a cardboard box), or maybe even bigger. One order was a couple of land speeders and a razorback and the box was left at my front door, this is regular shipping too.

It wasn't hidden at all? If it doesn't fit in our mail box it doesn't get delivered. Automatically Appended Next Post: As far as I've seen at least.

Then choose the free shipping and don't bother with the insurance. I never have, and I've had exactly 1 item go missing over the past 5 years (and it was replaced for free) - nothing has ever arrived damaged, and if it did it wouldn't be Maelstrom's fault anyway as they don't carry it from their warehouse to your door. Damage is 99% more likely to stem from the people who handled it across the world than the company that shipped it to you/
And all of this is pointless anyway - You should compare prices from a few areas (Wayland, Maelstrom, Warstore, etc.) and choose the cheapest rather than worrying about shipping insurance.
Portaljacker wrote:Also I have no idea if Canada Post will hit me with customs.
That has nothing to do with Maelstrom. You'll need to check with the Canadian postal service to see what their import tax/duty thresholds are. In Australia it's AUD$1000, so any order <$1000 has no tax attached to it. It is likely different in Canada.

I don't mind the wait for Maelstrom honestly since I do have a project I'm working on now. But I do want them to make it that the post office holds it so I have to pick it up. Not sure how though.

I don't think Maelstrom has the level of control over the world's postal services that you think they do. In my case, I live in an apartment. When things get delivered they will ring my buzzer, and if I'm not here they will take them back to the post office and leave a card for me so I know to pick it up later. I could get them delivered to the mailroom at work if I wanted - a friend of mine does that, then carries them home on the bus. This is something you'll need to speak to your local post office about. Ask them if you can get something held, or if you are not around to receive it what happens to the package. Ask if you can have it delivered at work (and ask your work/mailroom about this as well).

Holy crap... $1000 is a lot, here i think they don't bother you if it's less than $100 CAN, at least if it comes from the states.
As for if the box was hidden at all, no it was left in front of our door. There is always someone at home that checks the mail so i'm not worried.

Just to clarify, postage insurance not required when buying from a UK retailer. The retailer in the UK has a reposnibilty to get the product to you and is themselves liable for items not arriving no matter what the value.

I was actually curious which retailers send the packages in such a way that they come through Canada Post.

Portjacker, if a package is sent via Airmail from the UK it will depend on the agreements the UK postal service (or Royal Mail for its proper name) has in place with local postal services in your destination. In Canada its almost certainly Canada Post.
