What do you guys think about gaming podcasts . i spend a lot of time each week commuting to work , so i listen to a lot of podcast . My question is do you like them , or do you feel they're pointless rants , and which ones do you listen too . Do you think they have prevalence to todays gaming scene ? To me there great to inspire my hobby on your way to work , and enjoy listening to all things gaming . I specially like the ones that have game designer interveiws . So what do you guys opions on gaming podcast ?

I've just got one of those FM transmitters for my iPod so commute podcast listening is now an option to me, beats the shocking quality of breakfast radio over here.I'd love to hear of more.. I've downloaded the most recent episode of podhammer, and garagehammer so far... I think it's a good idea as long as they have a mix of content, ie not all rants.

If someone wishes to relay information to me, they can type it up nicely and put it on the web. Hearing someone's voice with the info only makes it take longer and more annoying.

I, too, would like advice re: GOOD podcasts. I currently enjoy the various pods at Wizards' website. But I've yet to find a good 40K pod. The ones I've tried so far are mostly WAY off topic with little good content and mostly frat-boy style antics.

I will be watching this thread with interest!

I listen to podcasts during my commute because radio is such garbage.

2 of the 40k podcasts I listen to would absolutely fall into the off-topic/fratboy humor category. The 3rd is The Independant Characters which is still light, but more on-topic and mature. I can't even stomach 40k radio anymore.

The D6 Generation and Game On are both good general gaming podcasts.

WFB podcasts are a crapshoot, so far. I listen to Podhammer for the antics, and the Waaghcast is hit-or-miss.

Wait, what? I would think the FM transmitter would be to listen to terrestrial radio... Not necessary for Podcasts. Kind of like needing a land line for your cell phone...

I listen to the D6Generation, but no other wargame-specific podcasts. I've tried a couple others. What I'd like is more that did in-depth reviews. For example, if anyone suggests one that does an in-depth review of FoW (D6G did one early on) or supplements, I'd try it. The main thing is I listen during a drive in a soft-top jeep, so audio quality needs to be acceptable or I will tune out.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Wish I had a tranmitter not going to drive with headphones on. I do listen to alot of podcasts iduring down time between classes. 40k podcasts seem to be very hit and miss. 40k radio gets to offtopic for my tastes and to many adds. 11th company is decent but are long episodes.

Ah, I got transmitter and receiver confused. I have a stereo with a front-panel line-in which is even better.

11th Company
40K Radio
The Eternal Warriors
Independant Characters
World's End Radio
The Overlords
Deep Strike Radio (explicit)

are the ones I usually listen to. They have the occasional rant in every now and then, but that's to be expected really. Most of the 'casts have some decent material so they're almost always worth downloading.

ha, no worries, it's a little gadget that plugs into the bottom of the iPod and emits a signal you can tune your radio to, unfortunately mine doesn't have a line-in...

Also, listened to the latest Podhammer earlier, there's lots of fooling around, and little discussion really, unless this was a one off like that?

Used to be a big fan of podcasts, but nowadays the only one I can stomach is THACO, because it doesn't feel like a podcast but like I'm listening in on a genuine conversation between good friends.

If there's any other podcast there with some personality, I'd love to know. I don't care about content much and prefer off-topic antics and ribbing.

That's just about all of my gaming ones there, plus others that I don't listen to. The only one that I listen to that you don't is "Game on with Cody and Jon" I like podcasts as I do a lot of driving in my job and it's just wasted time if I don't listen to something other than the radio. The other podcasts that I listen to are Collings and Herrin (comedy), Kermode and Mayo(films) and Fighting Talk (UK sports/comedy). Gamer's Lounge has rapidly ascended in my listening list (despite the fact that I don't play Malifaux)- Their interview with Gav Thorpe was excellent.

I really enjoy the independent characters, overlords, and the 11th company, they have good discussions, and their love of the game really shines through. 40k radio has to many inside jokes, and when their laughing their heads off I'm just left there wondering what's going on. worlds end is starting to talk about war machine, malifaux, their good but I'm just not into those games.

They're absolutely great. I listen to a couple while painting since football (American) and baseball season is over.

A good friend of mine commutes for about 2 hours a day, so he listens to them in his car via iPod.

So, yep. good stuff.

I prefer Independent Characters and 40k Radio, but lately 40k has been digressing too much. The sophomoric humor has gotten worse. Romey needs to lay the smack down on the other two knucle heads.

I think podcasting is great. It pretty much goes hand in hand with painting for me nowadays. Just last night I was catching up on some 40k radio episodes, my laptop died in the middle of feb 15ths podcast, and I pretty much had to pack it all up because I couldnt sit and paint in silence lol.

I currently listen to 40k radio and 11th company.

I tend to like 40K radio's banter. Sometimes it can be pretty funny, I dont gather a huge amount of information from it, but its just background noise anyways.

11th company is really growing on me, I like how they try to give tips on how to improve tactics and whatnot on the tabletop.

I will have to try and give some of the other podcasts that have been listed a shot!

I listen to most quality podcasts on 2x speed anyway, actually... It's funky at first, but after about a minute it's fine.

I used to listen to meetings that way for typing minutes. Makes it harder to distinguish voices, but saves so much time...

I can't listen to podcasts. I'd prefer to listen to public radio or an audio book on my commutes.

Radio here is nothing but either talkback or crap music.

I only listen to three podcasts though.
Two gaming casts, one that ironically is a radio broadcast (but in a different city and state, so out of range unless I want to daisy chain every antenna in the street to pick it up.)

The gaming casts are on the same 'wavelength' as me.
They don't take gaming seriously - nor it seems, most things about life (just like me).
The radio podcast is about what's happening in TV, movies, books and so on in the SF/Fantasy genres. It's done by a mate who is also a fanboy. He's had a lot of writers and actors on the show over the years (and even has a photo gallery of them).

I listen live to imperial voxcast each episode.

Defiantly in the top tier of 40k podcasting.

not sure if thats on their recorded casts. I pretty much only listen live. It would not surprise me though.

If I ever listed to one, it would be the D6 Generation... but unfortunately I've never figured out how to do it. I know that sounds lame, and maybe it's super easy! Me and computers just don't get along that well...

Download iTunes, go onto the iTunes store, search for the D6 Generation under the 'podcasts' tab and click subscribe. Easy as that.
